One of Where Winds Meet’s weirdest weapons is the Rope Dart. Provided you didn’t select this in character creation, you will have to undertake a small quest to unlock the weapon skills. The same is true of all the other weapons you didn’t select at character creation, but the Rope Dart is particularly fun as it ties into WWM’s Disguise system, one of the more creative side mechanics in the game.

Whether you plan on maining the Rope Dart or just want to unlock every weapon type to get the extra stories, here’s how to get its full arsenal.

How to Unlock the Rope Dart Weapon Skills

To learn the skills for Rope Dart, you need to complete The Art of Skill Theft quest. It will automatically start once you equip your Rope Dart if you have no weapon skills.

Starting the Quest

  • Open the Develop menu
  • Go to Gear
  • Equip Rope Dart
  • Press Spacebar to begin the weapon skill quest

From here, follow the quest marker to Kaifeng and then on to the Nine Mortal Ways Dojo.

Infiltrate the Nine Mortal Ways Dojo

You have to try to sneak into the dojo and activate the Skill Theft technique undetected. If you are caught, you will be tossed out, and you will have to start the infiltration over again.

Fail enough times and an NPC will pop up offering a tip: use the Disguise skill to get inside more easily. This opens up an optional route.

Optional Path: Using the Disguise Skill

If you want to unlock the Rope Dart without stressing over stealth, you can use the Disguise mechanic. For this, you will need:

  • The Disguise skill unlocked.
  • Rank 2 Disguise requires one side quest from Shopkeeper Wuyan.

Whenever you’re ready, head back inside the dojo and speak with Muddle near the entrance. You will be doing a small painting minigame, after which you’ll head back to Wuyan for your temporary disguise, which will last approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Getting Inside With a Disguise

While disguised, speak to Zhon Yong, then use Wind Sense and go to Tiancai. He will be giving you a Token that will give you permission to enter an inner training area.

Complete the Skill Theft Challenge

Inside the training area, watch the soldiers practice, then get onto the blue icon and activate Skill Theft.

Now, switch to Wind Sense to initiate the minigame:

  • You have 1 minute and 30 seconds.
  • Score at least 50 points
  • Every time a golden circle appears, click the button.
  • Don’t press during the grey circles or you lose points.
  • Once you have passed, if you have worn a costume, remove it and proceed.

Speak With Ni Laoshan

After completing the Skill Theft check, talk to Ni Laoshan. He will complement your determination and introduce you properly to the Nine Mortal Ways. This dialogue closes The Art of Skill Theft and unlocks the Rope Dart weapon skills.

What the Rope Dart Does in Where Winds Meet

The Rope Dart is a very technical, long-range weapon that pays off if you can play it very precisely. Its mechanics revolve around generating Tokens of Grace through the use of your Skills and then summoning rats to hit enemies and apply Tokens of Vendetta, which increase your rat damage even further.

Below is a readable breakdown of its core skills.

Rope Dart Weapon Skills

  • Light Attack: A four-hit combo using the Rope Dart. Simple and reliable.
  • Charging Stance-Rodent’s Resilience: Enter a charging stance, consuming endurance. Releasing the attack performs a powerful lunge forward. With each charge level, the total damage increases, and sword damage itself receives up to a 50% bonus.
  • Bladebound Thread Launch the Rope Dart forward. Hit a boss to pull yourself towards them. Hit standard enemies to pull them towards you. A follow-up press within 2.5 seconds kicks in a combo that knocks targets down. Applies a Vendetta Token and generates a small Token of Grace.
  • Rodent Rampage: Spend a Token of Grace to summon a rat to attack with you. If you use a Light Attack, the rat erupts from the ground and hits the target. Lasts 10 seconds and continues even if you switch weapons.
  • Dual-Weapon Skill: Rope Dart – Conversion. Immediately switch to the Rope Dart and perform an opening strike.
