The Midnight Blades is one of the earliest PvP-leaning Sects you can stumble upon in Where Winds Meet. If you like aggressive combat and want a faction that really leans into that mindset, this one fits right in. The only tricky part is simply figuring out how to start the initiation quest, since the game doesn’t point you toward it directly.
Below is a straightforward walk-through on how to join, rank up, leave, and finally rejoin the Midnight Blades.

How to Join the Midnight Blades

The quest starts in Halo Peak, which is located in Sundara Land, north of Qinghe. The game doesn’t mark this as one of the Sect quests, so here’s the complete chain below:
- Proceed to the stone platform marked in Halo Peak. A Seriously Injured Swordsman is lying collapsed there.
- Talk to him. He states in his dying words that the Midnight Blades sealed his fate.
- When he passes, turn around and follow the quest marker. A trail of blood leads to a field of corpses.
- Step into the middle of the clearing. The objective shifts upward, where above you rests Icchantika, the Midnight Blades’ Ferryman.
- Talk to him and select “My heart is of the Asura Heart.”
- Icchantika provides you with a token, saying to “stain it with blood.” All this means is you must kill someone—either an NPC or another player.
- Once you’ve made the kill, head back to Icchantika and select “Inherit karmic burden, join the Sect.”
- Hand over the Annihilation Token, and you’re officially in. You’ll receive the Infernal Twinblades right then and there.
(Important: do NOT give him the Rouge Token. That sends you down the path of the Nine Mortal Ways instead.)

Midnight Blades Rank-Up Basics
All rank progressions happen inside the Sect menu:
- Open Sects → Status, and you’ll see your current rank along with the objectives that need to be accomplished to achieve the next one.
- Clicking an item in this list shows where to obtain it and will lead you to the relevant activity or challenge.
A few level requirements are worth keeping in mind:
| Feature | Minimum Level |
| Midnight Blades entry | 10 |
| PvP – needed for rank progress | 22 |
You can technically join early, but you won’t actually move up the ladder until you reach level 22.

How to Leave the Midnight Blades

If the Sect isn’t your thing anymore, leaving is simple:
- Open the Sect window and select “Betray Master.”
- This game drops you straight into a Severance Trial in the Perception Forest, and this is automatic; there’s no way to manually trigger or skip it.
- Once you’ve walked away, your Sect reputation and merits are wiped.
- You do keep any martial arts you learned and anything you bought from the Sect shop, so it’s worth clearing the shop before you cut ties.
Can you rejoin the Midnight Blades?
Yes. You can rejoin the Midnight Blades after a 24-hour real-time cool-down via the same Sect menu:
Go to Sects → Midnight Blades → Join Sect, and the game will guide you through the steps to reconnect.
