You can start Veiled Blades in Prosperity Haven, west of central Kaifeng, near the Boundary Stone.
Walk into the area to overhear a group of people sitting around a table, chatting casually. Keep a distance and use the prompt to eavesdrop. Apparently, they are talking about rumours about the Canglang Manual hidden inside the nearby Zhao Pu residence.
Once the conversation is over, the location of the Zhao residence will be marked on your map. To get there, head east and use the rather obvious hole in the wall to gain entrance. You will barely have made it inside when a mysterious voice will demand that you show yourself.
First, to meet Zhao Chengzong

The voice belongs to Zhao Chengzong, the son of Zhao Pu, who fancies himself some kind of heroic investigator. He quickly decides you’re his assistant and proposes that you search for the manual together, splitting its secrets evenly.
Before the investigation truly begins, Zhao asks you to find his “brother,” which is a cricket stuck under a pile of rocks nearby. Releasing it grants his trust and starts the hunt in earnest.

Following Zhao, Finding Clues

From here on out, the quest is all about staying near Zhao. He walks from one location to another, and your task is simply to investigate whatever he points to.
The clues rapidly become unsettling: bloody footprints, signs of struggle, and suggestions that something darker happened here; Zhao is unbothered and treats it like a quirky whodunit.
You finally come to a bridge where, suddenly, out of nowhere, comes Zhao’s uncle. In an attempt not to raise suspicions, without warning, Zhao pushes you into the water below. It was abrupt, but effective.
Rooftop Stealth Sequence

After overhearing his uncle, Zhao follows him to meet his mother, and you’re tasked with tailing them without being seen.
The game makes this section pretty forgiving. You’re automatically placed on the rooftops, with highlighted jump points guiding your movement. Literally, all you have to do is:
- Stay on the rooftops
- Follow the prompts highlighted here.
- Don’t be left behind.
- You won’t get caught. If you are, or slip, the part resets.
You can only safely rejoin him once you are done talking to Zhao’s mother and head back inside to resume your investigation.

Entrance to the Underground Passage
The next stretch requires more stealth around guards who will immediately escort you out of the vicinity the minute they spot you. Keep close to Zhao and follow his directions.
You’ll be making a brief detour en route to get a Main Room Key from a small side room. Rejoined, Zhao creates a diversion for the guards guarding a heavily protected building so that both of you slip in.
Your task now is to find the hidden passage leading to the Canglang Manual.
Throwing Star Location & Hidden Room Opening

Inside, you can roam around as you like, reading the optional lore scattered about-including some very personal letters that are probably best left unopened.
When ready, go on into the room to the left side, which contains:
- A Throwing Star mounted on the wall
- A false bottom to a bookshelf
Pick up the Throwing Star and insert it into the compartment. A small rotation puzzle will appear. Rotate the star until it exactly fits the indentation, and the false door will slide open.
Crossing the Underground Passage

Go down the underground tunnels with Zhao. The puzzles here follow the same core idea but introduce new item variations.
You will repeatedly:
- Explore rooms for special items.
- Place them in their hidden compartments.
- Rotate them, flip them or transform them to fit the shape.
One of the important items is hidden upstairs in one of the rooms, the Hidden Weapon. This can be flipped before rotating, unlike a Throwing Star.
When you flip the switch nearby, the secret wall opens for a moment before closing again. Talk to Zhao—he’ll keep the mechanism open long enough for you to dash inside.
Deeper in, pull a wall chain to open another passage; then – the tricky part – work together to pull two levers simultaneously to reach the final chamber.

Solving the Contraption Tower Puzzle

Inside the underground area, there is the Contraption Tower at the heart of it; it’s a central structure that contains three empty compartments. To do so, you’ll need to find three Hairpins hidden nearby.
Hairpin Locations:
- One is in a locked room; ask Zhao to crawl through a hole to unlock it for you.
- Another sits near a shelf beside a locked gate.
- The last one is behind that locked gate – pull the nearby chain to open it.
Return all three Hairpins to the Contraption Tower.
With this, each Hairpin can now be transformed, enabling it to change between forms:
- Hairpin
- Hidden Weapon
- Throwing Star
Each compartment must be set up differently:
- The Hairpin should be turned once, then flipped and rotated
- Another requires two transformations, plus flipping and rotation
- The last one only needs to have Hairpin changed to Throwing Star, which fits automatically
The puzzle is solved by being able to correctly place all three.
Claiming the Canglang Manual
Solving the Contraption Tower will make a chest pop out, which contains the Canglang Manual. Opening it rewards you with the Riptide Reflex Inner Way. Exit with Zhao and briefly speak with his mother to conclude the story—confirming a fact you may already suspect. And with that conversation done, we’ve concluded the Veiled Blades Lost Chapter.
