Where Winds Meet: How to Complete One Leaf, One Life Lost Chapter Quest

One Leaf, One Life is one of the more layered side questlines in Where Winds Meet, and you’ll find it tucked inside the busy streets of Kaifeng City. It’s a story-heavy chain that asks you to poke into neighbourhood drama, help troubled locals, and piece together the truth behind a few tangled situations.

The quest is divided into three phases, each unlocking the next by earning different “leaves” through quests and side stories. Here’s how to get through every step.

How to Begin One Leaf, One Life

Head for the Hopewell Academy Boundary Stone in Kaifeng City. You’ll find a shop that’s on fire with a crowd gathered around it; approach it to automatically trigger Phase 1.

Phase 1 – War on All Sides

You’ll spend this first part roaming through the markets, alleys, and docks, collecting clues and helping the locals.

Feast of Leaves: Volume 1

You’ll start with an argument outside a shop on fire. After speaking with the couple, listen to the nearby gossip and then eavesdrop quietly on a group of suspicious folks. They will hint at something going down at midday tomorrow.

When they’re done, talk to the ringleader and accept the job.

What follows:

  • Go to Tianjing Dock, and then set the clock to the Wu Hour of the following day. Speak with the Foreman.
  • Follow the group; check out the commotion and investigate the supposed “body.”
  • Follow the paper clues to a gathering of mourners; eavesdrop on them from outside, then confront them.
  • Fight the four criminals, drag Lu San’er around town and force them to confess.
  • Once Zhang Ankang arrives, you get a short deduction puzzle: combine the clues correctly to summarise the scam. After the cutscenes, Volume 1 is done.

Tale of Gold Leaves: Volume 1

Head down the east side of South Gate Avenue, where a blind girl, Zheng Ran, is being teased by some kids.

Talk to her, follow her home, then ask the neighbours about her father. From here, you’ll track a thief across rooftops and follow the story of a missing gold leaf, ending at the Immortal Tree. Return the information to the local elder and wrap up the chapter.

Side Stories (White Leaf Collection)

You need six white leaves from Injustice Quests before you can proceed. Each small story takes just a few minutes, usually: a short fight, a chase, or helping a citizen in trouble.

Earn your leaves, then head back to the Elder Host’s home. You can try giving Zhang Ankang his coin pouch back, but he’ll refuse. Then report in to complete Phase 1.

Phase 2 – Every Residence Has Flickering Lights

The second part of this questline goes further into the families and traditions of Kaifeng.

Feast of Leaves: Volume 2

Start at Zhang’s Eatery. You will find out that Zhang Ankang is at the dock; go join him there and hand him the coin bag.

Back at his shop, help him cook the Locust Leaf Noodles: You’ll check the recipe and hunt down Wu Caifeng for advice, then head to the Locust Tree and pick a leaf at You Hour.

You’ll then bounce between a few locals, including Lu San’er again, Zhou Juan, and Jin Que, to piece together how the tree ties into their stories. Head back to Zhang Ankang to wrap up the chapter.

Tale of Gold Leaves: Part 2

Go to Jiang’s Teahouse and read a storybook, then track down Chen Xuewu’s missing students around the western streets and rooftops.

Reunite them, then wait for nightfall. You’ll sneak into the Patrol and Inspection Agency, roof-hopping and avoiding guards with the help of Wind Sense, and collect three clues.

Another deduction puzzle follows. This time, the truth is that the “Immortal Hero” was never one person. Lastly, find Zheng Ran at Willow Bank, use Tai Chi to catch the leaf, and speak with her to complete the quest.

Side Stories (More White Leaves)

You get five white leaves, which is how you unlock the next chapter, but there are seven optional stories. All of them eventually will matter for the Epilogue, so doing them now will save time.

These vary from soothing a suicidal man, assisting a woman with thieves, reading a diary at midnight, to shooting bells off a tree using your bow.

Obtain enough leaves and then just wait for You Hour, follow the Long-Street group, and return again to Zhang’s home for a cutscene-filled wrap-up of the Phase.

Phase 3: Huang Liang at Every Hearth

The final part lets you complete all side stories upfront before finishing the ending chapter.

Side Stories Final Set

These are small but charming errands: delivering letters, tracking down pastries, playing cuju, cheering up an elder using an emote, and retrieving a stolen blush with Celestial Seize. All of these must be done in order to unlock the Epilogue.

To Feast and Forget

Get back to Zhang’s Eatery, speak with everybody, then advance the time until You Hour of the next day. Attend the banquet at Tianjing Dock. Defeat the thugs disrupting the celebration, then view the final cinematic to proceed into the Epilogue.

Huang Liang at Every Hearth – Epilogue

Go to Zheng Ran’s home and listen to her. Then go to the Immortal Tree for a final chat with Ren Xiaoping.

Completing this gives you:

  • Gold Leaf accessory
  • Title: Gold Leaf Warrior

And that ends the whole One Leaf, One Life chain.
