Where Winds Meet has a lot of named systems at play, but Oddities are perhaps some of the most unintuitive. Contrary to their quirky name, Oddities are largely composed of small animals, insects, and strange flora.

These are easy to miss, slightly puzzling to collect. This is a description of exactly what they do and where they can be found.

What Are Oddities?

These are collectable Sentient Beings that can be found in every region. Every region has a certain number, which you have to collect to complete that region’s journal entry.

  • Qinghe mainly features insects, plants, and fixed puzzles
  • Kaifeng is more interested in movement-related tasks, as in the case of pursuing animals

Each type of Oddity uses the same interaction pattern repeatedly, so learning one means you’ll know it wherever it appears.

Techniques for Identifying Oddities

Oddities are not indicated on the primary map. Instead, they are indicated on a mini-map with a small icon resembling a butterfly.

  • Apply Grand Lightness skills to traverse grounds quickly
  • Keep your eye on the mini-map when you are moving.
  • Stick to low altitudes – you can’t spot icons if you are too high up.
  • Cancel Grand Lightness whenever with Mighty Drop

It is possible to find out how many oddities are present in a region through the Journal, but it will not inform players on what types of oddities are missing.

What Oddities Are Used For: Melodies of Peace

These Oddities are directly fed into the Melodies of Peace system, which allows for upgrades to characters and movement capabilities for them.

Qinghe – Qi Sheng

Qi Sheng will be located around General’s Shrine, north of the Wayfarer Boundary Stone.

His Melodies of Peace unlock

  • Grand Lightness techniques (such as Wallstride)
  • Endurance and Vitality Upgrades
  • Bell fragment for Bell of Demoncalm (final node)

You’re not asked to submit specific Oddities but just the total number of them. Nodes open up incrementally so that you can focus on what needs attention first.

Kaifeng – Bai Ji

Bai Ji is first introduced around the entrance to Kaifeng and then moved to the Palace of Supreme Oneness in the northwest part of the city.

His rewards are similar:

  • Energy and HP Improve
  • Final Reward: Quelling Embrace cosmetic

In both cases, Oddity types do not count, only their numbers.
