Lucky Seventeen is one of the standout encounters tucked deep inside the Palace of Annals—an optional area full of secrets, abandoned factions, and a storyline that hints at bigger events in Where Winds Meet. To uncover what happened here, you’ll eventually have to face Lucky Seventeen, a massive weapon-smith who stayed behind to guard the legacy of those who raised him.

Here’s where to find him and how to handle both phases of this surprisingly tough fight.

Lucky Seventeen Location

You’ll find Lucky Seventeen all the way at the bottom of the Palace of Annals. Getting to it requires a bit of snooping:

  • Enter the Palace of Annals area, heading towards the central building. If you have a Grand Lightness, use it to avoid the patrols that will be going strong outside.
  • Once you are inside, search the rooms. Your character will eventually make a comment about something that seems to be out of place.
  • Keep doing so, and eventually you’ll fall through a section of weakened floor into a locked room.
  • In this new area, listen for someone rummaging behind a wall. Further ahead is a hidden switch. Once turned on, it opens up a secret room and a staircase leading down.
  • Take out the enemy beneath, then follow the stairs deeper into the structure. At the very bottom, Lucky Seventeen is hard to miss-he’s still forging weapons nonstop.

How to beat Lucky Seventeen

Lucky Seventeen is a brute-strength, almost complete fight. In the first phase, he relies on fists and kicks, then picks up a giant scrap-metal weapon for phase two. He hits hard, but his recovery windows are long—provided you keep your cool and punish the openings, the fight gets manageable.

Phase One: Punches, Kicks, and Sudden Bursts

Despite his size, Lucky Seventeen can throw attacks with barely any wind-up, so pay attention to his smallest movements.

Key Attacks to Watch

  • Fast Gap Closer: Sudden rush punch-dodge or deflect immediately, he’s open for several seconds afterwards.
  • Golden Ground-Rip Attack: His arms glow gold before he tears up the floor in a straight line. Slip behind him, and you’ll have a big window to unload some heavy attacks.
  • Redskin Slam: Red skinning → smash to the ground → fast follow-up attack. Deflect the slam and get ready; follow-ups are quick and very easy to miss under the particle effects.
  • Four-Hit Punch/Kick String: Includes crouched swipes, low kicks, and fast jabs. Stick close and try to deflect each hit, rather than back away.
  • Occasional Feints: He’ll cancel mid-animation and switch to something else. For this reason, deflect late, not early.

(General Approach: Stick close, deflect constantly, and punish every recovery window. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll whittle down both his HP and Qi.)

Phase Two: Scrap Weapon, Projectiles, and Poison

Lucky Seventeen flips gears after the cutscene where swords impale him. He then swings his huge metal slab and adds some ranged attacks, plus a poison effect once he drops below half HP.

Opening Projectile Barrage

He’ll often slam his weapon down and immediately start flinging swords.

The volleys emerge quickly—dodging is often a better option than attempting to deflect each projectile.

Weapon Slash → Mix-Up

The sequence starts the same every time:

  • A sideways slash
  • Then he selects one of two follow-ups:
  • Multiple fast slashes, or
  • A leaping slam with a minuscule hitbox
  • Dodge the slam or continue dodging the chain slashes.

Forward Kick → Two Swings.

With fast weapons, there’s enough time between the swings to slip in a quick hit or two. Just be prepared to dodge/deflect immediately after.

Updated Golden

Attack: Same as the first phase, but with greater amplitude. Circle behind him and punish

Quick Shove (Stagger)

He does this with both hands, clutching his weapon. Dodge or deflect in quick time, or he’ll stun you into heavy hits.

Poison Phase

Below 50% HP, He jumps back, coats his weapon in poison, and resumes the same moveset.

(Difference: will now poison even through blocks if clipped correctly. Keep your health high, avoid unnecessary risks.)
