There is much that’s hidden in the world of PEAK, the co-op climbing survival game, that’s rewarded by exploration, and the PEAK world’s no different. One such item is the Yellow Winterberry—a very rare consumable fruit with a big effect but also a very significant component in getting certain achievements.
While it may resemble the more common Orange Winterberry, the Yellow is less available and much more desirable. Here’s how you can locate it on your next ascent.
Why Yellow Winterberry Is Such a Big Deal?
While PEAK is not overladen with consumables, those which are present are both useful and accomplishment-based. The Yellow Winterberry is notable for two reasons:
- Its in-game stamina increase, which can potentially provide game-saving energy bursts under high-risk climbing scenarios.
- Its involvement in the Gourmand Badge challenge, a badge that requires players to prepare and consume four different foodstuffs before island escape.
Because of these aspects, Yellow Winterberry is something that item completists and survival strategists cannot do without.
How to Identify Yellow Winterberry?

To look at, the Yellow Winterberry is similar to its Orange counterpart in shape and texture but a little darker gold. But don’t expect to see it spontaneously spawn out in the wild like the Orange one. The Yellow berry spawns much more precisely in location and condition.
Where Does the Yellow Winterberry Spawn?
The Yellow Winterberry only spawns close to capybaras, the rotund, round-bodied creatures scattered throughout the game’s ALPINE biome. Unlike other in-game creatures, capybaras are not automatically easy to find, as their exact location is randomly changed with each new island setup.
In order to locate them, players will need to do a little environmental scouting. The best clue that you’re near a capybara camp is observing smoke rising on the horizon. This smoke signal will generally mean a campfire or resting place where capybaras have gathered—and that is where you’ll find the Yellow Winterberries.
How to Reach the Capybara and Yellow Winterberry Location?

You won’t find the capybaras (or their treasured berries) by wandering along the SHORE biome. You’ll need to start climbing upward into the ALPINE region, which typically exists well above sea level and requires at least a moderate amount of stamina, tools, and coordination to reach.
As you ascend, take note of the skyline closely. A faint wispy line of smoke over the trees or ridges will be your first sign. If you spot it, go in the direction of the location. When you’re there, you’ll usually spot a small cluster of capybaras and two Yellow Winterberries somewhere nearby—either standing with the animals or on the ground.
Don’t over-shoot the space when ascending. It frequently occurs that if you have attained a place on the mountain, descending downhill is dangerous or merely unthinkable without beginning again or risking a fall. So ascend slowly, and if you observe smoke, make it your priority to reach that point and then proceed no higher.
How to Use the Yellow Winterberry?
Other than its stamina increase, Yellow Winterberry is also significant in obtaining the Gourmand Badge, a middle-end achievement in PEAK. It can be gained through cooking and consuming four specific food types within a single run, and Yellow Winterberry is one of them.
This badge is occasionally coveted by more experienced climbers who seek to push their effectiveness and strategy. Because the berry is so rare, many players make it their highest priority when they enter the ALPINE biome.
