The Hidden Ugliness is a short but memorable investigation encounter in Where Winds Meet, focused on exposing corruption and aiding the mistreated villager known as Lady Ugly. Most of the objectives revolve around exploring the Flower Expanse, talking to locals, and following a few suspicious clues that gradually unravel the truth behind the strange occurrences.

Where to Start Hidden Ugliness Quest

This quest can be found in the Flower Expanse part of the Sundara Land of Qinghe. You’re looking for a hut where Lady Ugly is being bullied by three children from the area. Approach her, and the quest begins.

The Hidden Ugliness Walkthrough

Head to her hut in the Flower Expanse and approach the group of children outside of it. Listen to them talking and then intervene by chasing Ji’er, Huang Lang, and Lucky away. After that, continue talking with her, at which point she will guide you through the Flower Expanse and continue to discuss her life.

Head back to the hut and examine the inside. You’ll find a letter inside describing a flower as having “a golden blade and iron wings.” The children return. You can ask them questions, and they will explain that they really have seen such a creature described in the letter. There are three mantises scattered about the Flower Expanse. They move around rather quickly, so follow each closely and snatch them up when the opportunity arises. Their locations will be specified with quest waypoints. Give all three mantises to Lady Ugly. Your character will explain that they weren’t flowers at all, but mantis-like birds.

The kids take you inside to have cake, and the minute you eat it, you will feel dizzy. Use Wind Sense and study the house and its surroundings. Once you’re done, follow the footprints to the Evercare Clinic. Use Wind Sense again, and keep on tracking. They end up near a cliff where a couple of pots are kept. Jump through the waterfall nearby. You’ll see a vine-covered stone wall; burn the vines with some Fire Arrows and go inside to find Lady Ugly with the three unconscious children.

The truth is out: Lady Ugly was not real. The figure you have been interacting with is but an illusion brought about by the cake you ate. Outside the cave, Yao Yaoyao explains that the children had been missing since last night and were found lying beside you, half-conscious. Travel to town and check in with each child’s family to make sure they are safe. Head back to Flower Expanse and approach Lady Ugly’s grave. Take the disguised balm left behind.
