Salvatore’s Apprentice trophy (or achievement) is a pleasant little nod to your safe-cracking skills. The challenge is straightforward on paper: crack a safe without ever learning or using its combination.
Practically, though, it’s easy to miss because the game will naturally lead you to go pick up notes that have codes before even seeing the safe. This is a Bronze trophy (around 10 G) and one of the less common achievements within the game that only a small percentage of players manage to accomplish.
Where and When to Try It in Chapter 6
You can only unlock this trophy in Chapter 6: La Difesa Siciliana. This chapter features multiple safes scattered throughout key locations. The most notable ones belong to Brancati, Marino, and D’Amico. Each has its own combination, but for this achievement, you’re going to completely ignore the notes containing those combinations and instead go straight to the safe.
- Brancati’s safe can be opened with 00-01-02.
- Marino’s safe uses 28-34-12.
- D’Amico’s office safe has the code 02-19-62.
Since you’re not allowed to “know” the code in-game, you’ll have to input it from memory or outside sources. This is what the game recognises as cracking the safe like a true apprentice.
The Most Reliable Way to Secure the Trophy
While you do have three to choose from, the safest of these to use for this achievement is the D’Amico’s Office safe. You’ll be entering his office as part of the main mission throughout the mission. The code note is accessible, but don’t pick it up. Go directly to the safe, walk up to the safe, and input 02-19-62 manually.
The moment the safe is opened before the game can declare you as “knowing” the combination, the trophy will be triggered. You are then able to continue with the mission without any impact on the story progress.
Why This Trophy Is Worth Grabbing
Aside from helping your overall percentage of completion, the Salvatore’s Apprentice trophy is one of those feel-good, skill-busting trophies that make you feel clever. You’re going roundabout the way the game would have you discover it and rather showing the game you’ve already got the knowledge to bust it in. It’s a short detour in Chapter 6, but worth it to completionists and trophy hunters alike.
