Throughout the course of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the player is engaging in a lot of quests, one of which is the retrieval of a powerful relic—the Great Welkynd Stone—from the ruins of the ancient Miscarcand. This quest, whose title is officially “Miscarcand,” is assigned to Martin Septim, one of the central characters of the game. But since Oblivion is an open-world game, the adventurer can actually discover these ruins long before they officially take on the quest.
Finding the Miscarcand Ruins

Nestled between Kvatch and Skingrad, the Miscarcand ruins can be found by referencing your map. Look slightly to the east of where “Kvatch” is marked and travel in that direction until Miscarcand appears on your compass. Upon arrival, descend the spiral staircase to officially begin the quest.
Navigating the Dungeon

Initial Exploration
Enter and proceed downstairs on the first staircase and battle the foe below. Go west until the road splits. Turn left, pass through the gate, and cross the bridge in front of you.
Solving the Gate Puzzle
Drop down from the bridge and move through the doorway near the western wall. Inside, climb up the stairs and press the button in the middle of the room. Climb the staircase in front of you, turn to the right at the top, and walk on the pressure plate to unlock an adjacent gate.
Moving Deeper
Head south across the bridge and proceed along it to the “Stone Door to Miscarcand, Sel Vanua.” Proceed through this door to access the next large section of the ruins.
Obtaining the Great Welkynd Stone

Clearing the Goblin Infestation
The second room has goblins. Kill them quickly—misdirect them to the door for easy work. After clearing the room, activate the wall button to lift the cage that contains the Varla Stone.
Path to the Artifact
Proceed southeast through the gate, then east along a staircase into a large open space. Continue along the south wall until you reach an open doorway into a thin passage. Proceed east along this passage until you reach a movable block.
After rolling the block, proceed north to the “Stone Door to Miscarcand, Morimath.” Enter and turn first left, then second left, and head west.
Claiming the Stone
Save your game before you proceed any further—fatal enemies lie ahead. Muscle your way through the gate until the radiating light of the Great Welkynd Stone is seen. Retrieve it to finish the main quest.
Escaping the Ruins
Confronting the King of Miscarcand
Turn around and head north across the bridge, where you will meet with the King of Miscarcand. Murder him and remove the key from his body.
Unlocking the Exit
Enter the north wall room and step on the pressure plate to open a secret path. Head west down the path, ascending staircases until you get to the “Stone Door to Miscarcand.”
In the final room, walk on a second pressure plate to lower the barrier ahead of you. Exit the ruins and walk to the quest marker to technically complete your quest.
