As you keep exploring the game you will meet various characters to interact with. You will mainly find them while doing various main missions and side quests in the game. To meet with Darth Vader, you will have to go through three Episodes, namely Episodes IV, V, and VI. Those familiar with his backstory will find his storyline to be similar to the movies; from being an antagonist to changing to the Light Side of the Force in the last episode to save his son, Luke.
Once you have reached the final episode, Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi, and watched Darth Vader’s final scenes, you will be able to unlock him as a playable character. You can choose to play as Darth Vader in Free Play mode whenever you wish. There is no payment or time limit for how long you can play as Darth Vader, so he is available to you indefinitely after completing the last episode. If you wish to change his outfits, however, you will need to shell out some studs to buy it.
