The second half of the upcoming 2.8 Genshin Impact Update will have Yoimiya’s first rerun banner and some players are conflicted about whether to pull on her banner. Yoimiya is a single-target pyro DPS unit that received a lot of flak upon her first release for not living up to the levels of Xiangling or Hu Tao. Since then the fanbase and the Genshin playing community have warmed up to her and while we can still acknowledge her flaws, she’s a much more used character now.
What Makes Yoimiya So Niche in Genshin Impact
Yoimiya is a niche unit that has small AoE usage but is fairly decent as a single-target Pyro DPS. She works great against world bosses and weekly bosses- especially against those who have large AoE attacks and keeps moving around a lot like Ei, Childe, or even Azdaha. Her gameplay is very easy as you can just spam normal attacks while dodging your opponents’ ranged shots.
Her elemental skill is her main source of DPS while her burst does a small AoE Pyro damage it’s really more beneficial for her teammates as it buffs their attack by 20%. Yoimiya players usually switch her out after deploying her elemental burst and applying her sigil to one of the enemies. This way they can use their other units to deal tons of damage to the enemy marked with the sigil and essentially switch her back when her burst ends. Her charged shot on the other hand, though homing is underwhelming in terms of damage.
A few of her other flaws include her range being lower than that of the 4-star Pyro catalyst DPS Yanfei- though in her defense her arrows do not have the height limitation that Yanfei’s attacks have. This ensures her attacks hit even when the enemy is airborne well above the ground. Yoimiya is also a squishy character with low health and defense so you’ll definitely want to bring a shielder to prevent staggering and getting one-shot by boss attacks.
Players have also complained about her moderate internal cooldowns which determine her reactions to other elements. After more practice and nuance, however, we’ve found her attack combos trigger elemental reactions at their highest damage modifiers. Her normal attacks trigger Vaporise or Melt every third and fifth hit consistently dealing tons of damage so it’s advised players complete her normal attack combos.
At the end of the day, she’s still a decent Pyro DPS unit and is great for those who want a simple, fun, uncomplicated gameplay just like her personality. Yoimiya’s cheery, simple and sunny personality is honestly her most attractive feature and we are all in for some fireworks on our screens.
