In Battlefield 6, you’ll want your vehicles to be in good shape—especially on the larger maps where tanks, jeeps, helicopters, and jets are going to be of greatest use to claiming objectives and turning the tide of battles in your favor. Whether you’re tearing across desert terrain in an APC or dog-fighting above a skyscraper, a busted vehicle won’t help you much. If you’ve gone to the effort of unlocking and flying some of the game’s larger planes, you may be interested in how to make it stay airborne.
The Tool of the Trade: Repair Tool
To repair any kind of vehicle in Battlefield 6, you’ll need the Repair Tool—a blowtorch-like gadget exclusive to the Engineer Class. No other class can equip or use this item, making Engineers essential for keeping your team’s fleet alive and functional.
Interestingly, the Repair Tool is a core part of the Engineer’s kit and cannot be unequipped, reinforcing their role as the game’s dedicated mechanic.
How to Repair a Vehicle
Repairing is simple, but timing and positioning matter. Here’s how it works:
- Approach a damaged vehicle—either your own or a teammate’s.
- Equip the Repair Tool and hold the fire button when close enough. You’ll need to be in melee range for it to take effect.
- The vehicle’s health will gradually regenerate while the tool is active.
- If you are within a vehicle, you can also repair from gunner or driver seat—just touch the on-screen marker (press 3 on PC). This enables you to repair while moving, although you will be exposed to enemy fire as you do that.
Increasing Your Repair Speed
As you learn more about the Engineer Class, you’ll learn an Active Ability called Power Repair. When activated, your Repair Tool’s power is boosted 50% for 10 seconds. You’ll be able to heal through most small-arms fire and even withstand medium rocket barrages—just don’t attempt to shrug off a tank shell or precision airstrike.
Used where it is appropriate, Power Repair can mean success and freedom or disaster and annihilation.
Some Repair Advice
- Repairables are reserved for friendlies. Try to repair an enemy tank or aircraft with the Repair Tool and you’ll destroy it.
- The Repair Tool is not a close-range weapon, but it can be used to do some damage close up. It’s still better to use it as a support item, though, and it’s only used in close range under extreme situations.
- The Engineer Class also has explosives that you can use against vehicles, so they’re very valuable on the battlefield.
