The PEAK Mesa biome is likely the game’s toughest area, offering rough environmental risk with some of its finest rewards. One of them is the 24 Karat Badge, which tasks you with “making the kiln a worthy offering.” While it seems cryptic, the answer to its unlock is straightforward when you know what the kiln really desires.
The True Offering
The kiln doesn’t concern itself with trinkets or standard loot. Piling on frisbees, plushies, or even the rare gem available sitting atop the peak is not going to cut it. What it desires is the “Ancient Idol,” a massive golden statue which is located deep in the Mesa biome. This large cumbersome relic is the “only” item worthy enough to trigger the badge.
Finding the Ancient Idol
You’ll find the Ancient Idol inside an underground tunnel system located near the beginning of the Mesa biome. For some time, the entrance to these tunnels was inaccessible due to a bug, but it has been fixed in recent updates. Getting to the idol isn’t an easy feat—the tunnels are bounded by the Mesa’s familiar threats, from blistering heat and stubborn cactus thickets to ferocious tornadoes and burrowing pit monsters. The idol’s considerable weight will slow you down, so careful planning is essential.
Finishing the Sacrifice
Once you’ve acquired the Ancient Idol, your journey is far from over. The second thing to do is to take it to the kiln at the top of the map. Patience will be required because the majority of the idol will make it even more difficult to travel through the mountain. When you arrive at the kiln, you only have to throw the idol into the fiery core. Once it is consumed by fire, the 24 Karat Badge is yours.
Preparing for the Journey
While skill and patience are required, preparation is equally important. Dress for heat protection, chart your route through unnecessary hazards, and, if possible, take a few friends with you to help clear the way ahead. The Mesa will be no friend to you, but using the right strategy can turn this deadly expedition into one of your most triumphant achievements.
