Navigating Hollow Knight: Silksong at times has the feeling of going in circles, and no area is more evident than the Far Fields. With a map in hand, it isn’t uncommon for players to retrace their steps repeatedly without knowing that advancing through them demands a highly specialized skill. This guide details how to leave Far Fields behind, open up new paths, and even pick up a secret Mask Shard in the process.
Far Fields Basics

Far Fields is located east of Deep Docks and can also travel north into Greymoor. It is not connected directly to Hunter’s March, but it is located close to it geographically. The area is broad and innocuously open, making it simple to overlook the single quest that offers the key to progression.
The Flexile Spines Quest and Drifter’s Cloak

If you’re stuck in Far Fields, the reason is most likely always the same: you didn’t complete the Flexile Spines quest. The quest takes place in the large field to the south of the Fields, where you should be able to spot a floating balloon. Enter it and speak to the Seamstress, who will equip Hornet with the Drifter’s Cloak.
This new ability allows Hornet to fly on currents of wind, and through it, the previously unreachable paths of Far Fields are now open.
Hidden Reward: The Mask Shard in Far Fields

Before you leave, take a side trip. If you have the Drifter’s Cloak equipped, you can get to an off-the-map Mask Shard. Begin where the Seamstress’s balloon is and ride to the right until you notice an upwards current. Ride it, then ride left and into the explosive rock-covered territory. Blowing them up will make updrafts, and after you blow up three in all, you’ll expose the way ahead.
Look for a yellow bomb above, ride the current to strike it, and dodge the blast as it falls. Beneath the rubble lies the Mask Shard — a valuable upgrade that should not be missed.
Breaking the Loop: How to Leave Far Fields
Once you’re ready to move on, there are three primary routes out of the Fields:
Back to the Deep Docks – retrace your steps and return to familiar ground.

By the Bell Beast Bellway – go on the lowest road and encounter the Fourth Chorus boss. Kill it, and travel on the wind currents upwards, shattering explosive rocks in the process. This leads to the Bellway, which serves as a quick-travel system to waypoints already unlocked by you.

North to Greymoor – if you’re not afraid to keep going on to new territory, continue climbing past Pilgrim’s Rest, using the Cloak to climb on currents and shattered rocks. This takes you eventually into Greymoor, opening up a new territory for you to explore.
Far Fields can easily entrap players in loops of backtracking, but the twist is completing the Seamstress’s quest and unlocking the Drifter’s Cloak. Hornet now possesses the ability to climb, glide, and find entirely new areas of Pharloom. If you do a loop around, go to Pilgrim’s Rest, or progress into Greymoor, mastering Far Fields is a highlight of Silksong’s journey.
