The Moth puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake is in Apartment 202. You’ll find a lock that needs a number code, lots of moths on the boards, and an equation on the wall with symbols instead of numbers. This guide will show you how to solve the Moth Lock combination in Room 202. To solve this puzzle, you have to decipher what the writings on the wall mean and look into the room full of moths. This puzzle is about memorization and mathematics.

How to start the Moth Lock Combination

The moment you step into room 202, you’ll be trapped inside the room with a bunch of moths flying all over, along with a very big and complicated lock, which keeps one locked inside. If you try to open the lock, you’ll see hints about the three numbers you need to enter. The hints are pictures: crescent moon, a skull, and a circle, when solving correctly the right numbers.

How to solve the Moth Lock Combination

To get out of this room, you must understand how the moths are connected to a locked door that blocks your path. The clue is a drawing near the door with math problems that use these symbols: a crescent moon, a circle inside a diamond, and a skull

To solve the puzzle, count how many times each symbol appears. You can find the symbols on the moths’ wings, but some wings have more symbols than others, and some moths might be missing wings.

The number of circles is the simplest to find. If you walk around the room and count the moths you can see, you’ll get 5. Near the entrance, there’s a hole in the wall. You can peek through it, and if you look inside, you’ll see another moth with a skull pattern, making the total number of skull symbols 2.

The confusing one, however, is the number of crescents. There’s a hidden moth that you can’t see right away, which increases the total number of crescents. To find this moth, find a spot near the three moths hanging on the wall. There’s a wall there that you can break through to find another room.

This is the room you could see through the hole in the wall. Inside, move the bookshelf away from the moth with the skull pattern. You’ll find another moth with crescents on its wings. Count the crescents, and you’ll have a total of 8.

  • Now you can do the math. The first problem is the crescent minus circle, which is 8 minus 5. So, the first number is 3.
  • The second problem is skulls plus circles, which is 2 plus 5. That gives you 7.
  • The last problem is circles minus skulls, which is 5 minus 2. That leaves you with 3.

So from that, we get 3, 7, 3. Enter that into the combination lock and click “Accept” to open it and gain access to the room beyond. Inside, you’ll find a disgusting hole in the wall, which James can stick his hand into to get the Second Hand, the final piece of the ongoing Silent Hill 2 Remake clock and riddle puzzle that carries you through the Bluecreek Apartments sequence.
