The Spicy Coaltana is back in Grounded 2 as the game’s most efficient weapon. One of the oldest fan-favorite weapons in the series, this two-handed sword on fire packs intense “spicy” damage, which can incinerate bug enemies at will on every swing. As a tier-3 weapon, the Coaltana is at the very peak of the weapons tier list, with superb reach, raw damage, and elemental utility.
Although getting the Spicy Coaltana is quite a task, it’s an exceptionally good weapon that’s totally worth the hassle. Here’s how to unlock and make it.
Unlocking the Coaltana Recipe
Prior to making the weapon, you’ll first have to obtain the Spicy Coaltana recipe. This is made accessible once you’ve defeated the last bosses of Act One — the Bandit and the Masked Stranger. These battles are challenging but pivotal checkpoints within the early game.
After defeating the bosses, go inside the building which they were guarding. You will find two very important items: the Sizzling Key and the Charred Recipe, which will enable you to craft the Spicy Coaltana at a Workbench.
Gathering Crafting Materials
Now with the recipe in your possession, your next mission is gathering the three required materials needed to forge the Coaltana: Spicy Globs, EverChar Coal Chunks, and Wolf Spider Chunks.
How to Find Spicy Globs
Spicy Globs are perhaps the most difficult to obtain. To obtain them, go to the Pine Hills area. Behind the Pine Hill Ranger Outpost, find the big spider’s nest and proceed with caution through the webs. Be careful not to wander off course—stay on the left-hand side as you journey deeper.
At some point, you’ll find a knot of roots and a big leaf with a firework on its top. There’s a chest under this leaf that can be opened only using the Sizzling Key that you collected before. The Spicy Globs needed for the weapon can be found inside.
Where to Get EverChar Coal Chunks
The EverChar Coal Chunks are less difficult to harvest. Go to the Fire Pit, the northernmost area of the map. The chunks of coal are lopsided around the site and are easily mined by using the right equipment. Take care, though—the location could be guarded by fire-resistant hot-tempered bugs.
Finally, you’ll need to take down Wolf Spiders to collect their chunks. These formidable enemies can be found in dark, shaded regions around the map, particularly near tree roots or under structures. Prepare well for these encounters—Wolf Spiders are fast, strong, and aggressive. Using a bow or spicy-based attacks can help tilt the fight in your favor.
Crafting the Spicy Coaltana
Once you’ve gathered all the required components—Spicy Globs (2), EverChar Coal Chunks (5), and Wolf Spider Chunks (4)—head back to your Workbench.
Interact with it to craft the Spicy Coaltana and officially add this fiery powerhouse to your arsenal. Its strong elemental damage and high-tier status make it one of the best weapons for taking on tougher enemies and late-game challenges in Grounded 2.
