How to Get Surcoat or Woffenrock – Half Sword

A fresh start in Half Sword isn’t always about sharper blades or stronger plates. Hidden just beneath view, some key boosts come from cloth draped over chains and leather instead of hammered metal. Take surcoats – plain weaves, barely noticed, yet vital. Woffenrocks too. Neither shows up in any merchant stall.

Simple? Yes.

Ignored by many? Often.

It comes to you by chance, never through purchase. Wearing a surcoat or woffenrock means someone else once did – and now they’re dead. You get it only if you defeat them.

Surcoat or Woffenrock: Where to Find?

Most often seen when fighters appear dressed unevenly, such as in the Beggar’s Tournament. Spot someone fighting in a tabard over metal? The real shift begins once the fight ends.

Only when the foe lies still or yields, move close. Press Q to seize their body. As you carry them, press Q once more to remove gear. The body drops if it works. You’re left with a cloth – surcoat or waffenrock – yours to wear or keep.

Few chances exist once the moment slips by. Should death come first, the clothing vanishes along with everything else. Traders offer nothing afterwards. Another path to obtain it does not open up. Crafted versions stay out of reach entirely.

Why This Counts

Appearing at first glance, surcoats and waffenrocks seem unimportant. Not built to fight, unlike swords or shields. Instead of loud promises like thick plate armour, they stay quiet. Yet when starting, their role becomes clear through small but lasting impacts. Their value hides just beneath the surface.

  • Not common on purpose. Found only after beating certain foes, each encounter forces a choice – stay cautious or engage with precision to claim what’s there.
  • What surprises most is how much these details shape survival and performance. Tiny edges build quickly in Half Sword – momentum shifts, body positioning, how strikes land – all tipping fights when physics runs the rules.

Now it clicks – tournaments feel different once you get it. Winning single rounds isn’t the main goal anymore. Before each fight, eyes track who’s where. Choices shift depending on the gear others have. Picking battles becomes part of the plan.
