Fishing is one of the easiest, yet most crucial forms of food gathering in Hytale during a player’s early game activity. This guide provides a thorough explanation of how to properly set up bait and fish traps, as well as how to successfully harvest them during the early phases of your gaming experience.

Using Fishing Traps

Fishing in Hytale requires the use of fishing traps to catch fish. Currently, this is the only way to fish in the game. To catch fish, the player has to create a fishing trap, along with a bait for attracting fish. Both of these items are created using the Farmer’s Workbench, with crafting them requiring the use of Life Essence as an ingredient.

Note: Simply using the fishing trap can make the process quite long so it’s always recommended to use bait to speed up the process.

Once you have constructed your fishing trap, you can set it up in the water. The trap must be set up one block away from the shore, as this is where the trap will be set up correctly. After you have set up the trap, you will want to put bait in the fishing trap.

The fishing trap must sit in water for a period of time to catch fish. You will want to check back later to see what has been caught in your fishing trap.

Harvesting Fish

After sufficient time has passed, you will have the ability to harvest from your fishing trap by pressing the F key on your keyboard while interacting with the trap. For example, if your fish trap gave you three Bluegill, then you may use this catch to either cook or utilize in any other manner desired.

Currently, fishing traps are the only method for catching fish in Hytale. Fishing poles have yet to be confirmed as an alternate means of catching fish, but for players that are in the early stages of the game, fish traps are a great option.
