The PEAK update introduces one of the game’s most surprising useful survival devices—the balloon. While they resemble frivolous toys, in the game world, balloons are the difference between a near escape and a gradual descent back to the beginning. They play an equally important part in obtaining the Aeronautics Badge, one of the update’s lighter accomplishments.
Why Balloons Matter in PEAK
Balloons don’t exist solely for aesthetics—beyond look, they actually minimize fall damage. After they’re installed, they hover above your character, prepared to break up smaller falls that would otherwise end your run prematurely.
They’re not magic parachutes, though. A great fall off the side of a cliff will still hurt you badly, but when you’re walking over thin ledges or decayed trails, balloons give you the room you need to brace yourself after a fall.
The greater number of balloons you use, the less damage is done—so they’re well worth it for survival and the Aeronautics Badge challenge.
Unsealing the Aeronautics Badge (Achieve Flight)
The Aeronautics Badge is one of the simpler achievements in PEAK, but it requires some patience and item hunting. Your objective is straightforward:
- Equip six balloons at the same time.
Once you’ve gathered enough balloons, simply equip them all from your inventory and the badge will unlock instantly. The challenge isn’t in the equipping—it’s in collecting the full set.
Where to Find Balloons on the Mesa
Balloons are in the luggage boxes that get dropped throughout the map. Your best option to locate them is:
- Starting Area: Occasionally, you may get a balloon immediately when you jump in. This is not always a sure thing, but it’s fast enough to look.
- Timber Ridge: Search for baggage along the way. Balloons may drop in individually or in small groups, so loot whenever you can.
Because balloon spawns are random, it may take you a few rounds to pick up all six. When you do, equip them, enjoy the sight from above, and earn the Aeronautics Badge.
