Fortnite’s fame has steadily grown since its debut in 2017. It has occasionally declined in popularity, such as when a large number of professional players left Chapter 2, but overall it has maintained its position as one of the most played games of all time.

When considering Fortnite as a whole, the highest active player count was 78.3 million in August 2018. Along with the fact that it was the summer break, Fortnite’s inclusion on the Nintendo Switch is believed to be the reason for this milestone. This was then surpassed by Travis Scott’s 12.3 million concurrent participants and the record-breaking 15.3 million spectators for the Galactus live show.

Despite the fact that Epic does not make the Fortnite player count openly accessible, IGN reported in 2021 that the game had more than 400 million registered players. Since then, it has probably increased even more, presumably surpassing 500 million in 2023, but we won’t know for sure until Epic decides to disclose more details.

3 million people are presently playing Fortnite, according to PlayerCounter. This clearly fluctuates throughout the day, frequently falling between the 2 and 8 million figure. Since the year’s beginning, there have been 24 million distinct players on average, and between 260 and 270 million various players log on each month.

It’s absolutely still popular, however the current meta is not. The current “meta” of Fortnite is to combine the use of a shotgun and an SMG. Use your shotgun to fire, then your SMG to spray. Competitive players primarily dislike this since Fortnite changed from flick-shotting (double pump) to tracking (spraying with the SMG), which damages people’s muscle memory and close-range responsiveness. The SMG has also grown significantly. Because bloom spraying is not at all skill-based, the current meta primarily relies on RNG.

In comparison to the other insanely popular battle royale titles, Fortnite has it’s own stand because of it’s cartoon-ish graphics in comparison to the ultra-realistic playstyle of Playerunknown Battlegrounds and Modern Warfare and Warzone. And Realm Royale has not really been popular because it tried to blend Paladins and Battle Royale and ended up completely obliterating both the aspects. So does Fortnite stand a chance in the future? Yes, it does.
