The Omni-Tool in Grounded 2 is an all-in-one multi-tool that combines the use of an axe, hammer, wrench, and shovel. Its compact size minimizes the need to haul a set of tools, saving inventory space and allowing for rapid adaptation in the field. One of its most basic functions, the Omni-Shovel, allows for dig-up extraction of both burrowing bugs and buried loot littered across the level.
As the game progresses, some of the more valuable mid-game treasures become accessible only through an upgraded Omni-Shovel Level 2. If you’re aiming to uncover these buried secrets, you’ll need to complete a few essential tasks first. Here’s how to upgrade your shovel and where to find the necessary materials.
How to Unlock the Omni-Shovel Tier 2 Upgrade
Nowadays, the Omni-Shovel can be upgraded only to Tier 2 because there are more upgrades available in the upcoming updates that will be released later, most likely in the Winter and Summer patches.
To acquire the Level 2 shovel, a player will have to obtain specific items and visit a Ranger Station in order to complete the upgrade. This upgrade is relatively simple in terms of prerequisites, although it involves combat with one of the more hostile mobs early on—the Northern Scorpion Jr.
The following is the material needed:
- 2x Pine Needles
- 1x Northern Scorpion Stinger
- 2000 Raw Science
Before this, though, players already possess a Tier 2 Omni-Axe, which they need to acquire one of the material for the upgrade.
Where to Get Pine Needles
Pine Needles are gathered from Needle Bundles, which exist exclusively in the Pine Hill area west of the Picnic Table. When you arrive, look for pine branches with long and narrow needle-like projections from them.
To harvest them, you’ll need a Tier 2 Omni-Axe. Chop the bundles down, and Pine Needles will drop to the ground. Make sure to gather enough and bring them back to your base for storage or immediate crafting use.
How to Get the Northern Scorpion Stinger
The last important ingredient for the upgrade is the Northern Scorpion Stinger, which is gotten by defeating a Northern Scorpion Jr. These pest-like insects are poisonous and can incapacitate players in no time, hence proper preparation is essential.
Preparing for the Fight
Before engaging in battle with a Northern Scorpion Jr., wear venom-resistant armor or consume Scorpidote smoothies, providing temporary immunity to venom damage. Equipped with equipment, players can engage in melee and shield or maintain a distance using a bow and arrows to shield themselves and take away at the enemy’s health.
Killing one of the Northern Scorpion Jrs. carries a chance to drop the stinger that you need. It may take a number of battles to obtain the drop, so expect to track several.
Upgrading
With the Pine Needles you have collected, a Northern Scorpion Stinger, and gaining 2000 Raw Science, head to the nearest Ranger Station. There, go into the upgrade menu and use the Tier 2 upgrade on your Omni-Shovel.
