Grounded 2 – How to Fight Cold

Grounded 2 boasts an array of environmental hazards found around different biomes across its enormous map. Of these, cold weather—such as the one found around the Ice-Cream Cart—is especially hazardous for survival for players. Having an extreme cold temperature inflicts progressively more Chill as a status condition, slowing you down, freezing you, and eventually depleting your health.

Fortunately, the game offers different methods for managing and surviving cold temperatures, either through equipment, mutations, or foods. This guide describes all available methods to help you survive the cold and travel across frozen biomes effectively.

Equip Chill-Reduction Armor

Your first protection from cold weather is the donning of gear that comes with the Chill Reduction perk. In the initial stages of the game, you can get primitive pieces of armor from which you build minor resistance to the cold. Moving forward and getting access to more advanced resources unlocks the availability of additional armor sets with much higher protection from the cold.

To achieve your maximum resistance, attempt to wear a full three-piece armor set that offers Chill Reduction. Wearing the full set not only enhances your cold zone survival time but also spares you from being immobilized by the Chill status effect earlier.

Check your equipment stats and upgrade materials as you learn more about exotic parts from end-game monsters and biomes.

Unlock the Spicy Safety Mutation

Mutations are passive improvements that may provide a significant boost as far as exploration advantage goes. Spicy Safety mutation is what is needed for cold resistance. Chill Reduction is what it gives at Stage 1, and at further upgrades, it also gives Freeze Resistance and Shatter Resistance.

To unlock and level up this mutation, consume Spiny Shards, which are gotten by collecting Spicy Candies scattered all over the park. One of the best places to find these is on top of the Picnic Table, where a couple of candies are waiting.

You will need a Level 2 Hammer to break the candy and eliminate the shards. Eating ten shards entirely unlocks the mutation, highly improving your skill at working in cold environments.

Eat Heat-Boosting Food

The other effective means to withstand cold climates is consuming spicy food and hot beverages. Spicy Shards and Blazin’ Brew are some examples that can temporarily raise the body temperature, hindering or even reversing the buildup of the Chill effect.

These consumables are especially useful when your cold meter is urgent—e.g., when you can no longer run or are going to freeze. Eating a spicy food at the proper time will regenerate movement and heal cold damage, allowing you to escape to a safe place or resume your mission.

While these items can be found around the world, having them at your base is a consistent supply. Learn their recipes by hovering over the ingredients at a Field Station or purchase them from the Science Shop.

Surviving Grounded 2’s cold biomes is a question of preparation. Wearing appropriate gear, unlocking favorable mutations, and keeping a supply of spicy consumables on hand will enable you to successfully negate Chill’s effect and travel safely through the game’s chilliest areas. Whether you’re exploring the Ice-Cream Cart or other cold biomes, these items will warm you—and keep you alive.
