Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG open-world title from the developer miHoYo. As the game is free and it’s similarity with the popular title Legends of Zelda, millions of people have downloaded the game. But, the game is rigged with errors and bugs, one of the most troubling is the Genshin Impact Error Code 4201. Another error with the game that goes hand in hand is the Genshin Impact error code 9203. While the latter is easier to resolve, you may be struggling with the 4201 error code. The error code in Genshin Impact appears as “Failed to connect to the server Error code: 4201.” The error is a connection problem with the game servers. Sometimes, this can be due to a problem with the servers, while it can also be local. A good way to determine if it’s a server or local problem is to visit Twitter or third-party website like Downdetector that report the number of users with a similar problem in your region. If the problem is widespread, the problem could be on the server end.

Change DNS Settings on PS4
- Open the PlayStation and head to the main Menu and go to Settings
- Select Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings > Custom
- Select LAN for cable and Wi-Fi for Wireless depending on the type of connection you are using
- Next, select Custom and change the IP Address Settings to Automatic; Do not specify for DHCP host name; manual for DNS settings, and enter the primary and secondary DNS – 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 – ; Automatic for MTU settings; and Do not use for Proxy server.
- Save and Restart the PlayStation 4.
How to Change DNS Settings on Windows 10 or PC
- Press Windows Key + I to open the Windows Settings
- Select Network & Internet
- Click on Change adapter options
- Select the network and right-click > Properties
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties
- Toggle Use the following DNS server addresses and fill the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
- Click Ok.
If you are playing the game on a mobile device, you could be encountering the 4201 error with Genshin Impact as well. For mobile users, the actual problem is the fluctuating internet connection. You must ensure that the connection is persistent and reliable. Try using the Wi-Fi. But, not public Wi-Fi as the NAT type may not be suitable for the game. Ensure that the NAT type on the Wi-Fi router is set to Open.
Back to PC, if you are playing the game using a VPN, then that could also be a problem. The same applies to proxies as well.
Finally, as the problem is so widespread it’s most likely due to the servers getting hammered with the large number of players. The best thing you can do is find the right time to play when there are less players and you should be able to play without the Genshin Impact Error Code 4201.

The complete error message appears as, “Failed to download resource files or network error. Please try again. Code:-9203.” The error occurs due to a temporary glitch or volatility with your internet connection or a problem at the server end. In order to resolve the error, close the game, reboot the system, and try playing the game again. Although, it may sound simple, the straightforward solution has resolved the error code 9203 for a lot of players.
