Dungeonborne is the latest free-to-play action-adventure role-playing game by Mithril Interactive. However, many players cannot access the game as they are running into an annoying error that reads “Please launch the game through steam error code: 17 SteamAPI_init failed, please check your steam client status, 0. If the same mistake is frustrating you, then this guide has covered all potential methods to resolve it.
How to Fix Dungeonborne Error 17 SteamAPI_init Failed
We have gone through several threads from the real players and gathered all potential workarounds here so you can easily resolve the error code: 17 SteamAPI_init failed in Dungeonborne.
1. Run the Game as an Admin
Some players suggest running the game as an admin will help to resolve this error. Certain games require sufficient permissions to run the game smoothly on your device. So go to the game’s folder, find its executable (.exe) file, and right-click on it. Select Properties and then click on the Compatibility tab at the top and then check the “Run this program as an administrator”.
2. Update Steam and Game
Next, make sure that the Steam as well as the game is updated to the latest version. If any of these is outdated, you might receive this error. So, simply update Steam and the game and then check if this trick worked to resolve the error.
3. Repair Game Files
Any missing or corrupted game files can also trigger this error so the next workaround we suggest is to verify the integrity of game files. To do that: Go to Steam Library >> Right-click on the game >> Properties >> Local Files >> Verify integrity of game files.
4. Disable Steam Overlay
This will help to reduce the load on your system and improve the overall gaming performance. The steps to do this method are pretty simple: Go to Steam Setting >> In Game tab >> Disable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
5. Disable Fullscreen Optimization
When you disable fullscreen optimization, it will help to resolve several performance-related issues in the game. For this:
Go to the game’s executable (.exe) file and right-click on it. Then, go to Properties >> Compatibility >> Disable fullscreen optimization >> Apply >> Ok.
That’s everything you can try fixing the Dungeonborne error code: 17 SteamAPI_init failed.
Not only did none of the above work but why th do u want admin access to begin with? Wtf kind of non-release alpha version of this game are u trying to get ppl to test for you? Sad, looks like a good game that I’d have liked to try. O well.
Sorry, but no!
1. Run the Game as an Admin
Why? At 1st start admin request is ok for firewall. That´s it. Why should I grant a game permanent admin rights?
2. Update Steam and Game
Steam ist self-updating and the error comes with a fresh install.
3. Repair Game Files
Repairing what? Freshly downloaded and installed files?
4. Disable Steam Overlay
Why?! If a dev releases on steam, than I expect full functionality. U don´t buy a house and than cutting your access to the kitchen after that…
5. Disable Fullscreen Optimization
Why?! Some are paying >1000 bucks for great hardware and can´t use it then?
Conclusion:
the game simply isn´t in a state for release, again the gamers are used as QM and bug hunters.
Just the error message is showing me, that they´ve didn´t make their work properly. “Please start the Game via Steam.” Ridiculous….
None of this worked
