The fourth and much-awaited title in the Age of Empire series has finally come out of Steam and other PC stores. The game is already a hit with the current concurrent user count exceeding 60K. The game itself is quite remarkable with very few bugs and errors. One of the issues users have encountered is the Age of Empires 4 (AoE4) String Not Found error. All the text in the game appears as “String [$11168262] Not Found.” It’s quite a frustrating situation as the game becomes unplayable. The reason we have identified that led to the error is the language settings on your system. Any other language other than English leads to the error. Keep reading as we detail the solutions.

Age of Empires 4 String Not Found Error Fix

Depending on where you have bought the game, the fix varies but it’s essentially the same things. If you purchased the game on Steam, you need to change the Steam language to English. If you bought it via the MS Store, you will need to change the settings on your PC to fix the Age of Empires 4 String Not Found error. Here are the steps for both user types.

For Steam Users

  • Close the game
  • From the Steam Library, click on Age of Empires 4
  • Go to Properties > click on Language tab > select English.

If the issue does not resolve after changing the language on Steam, change your PC language as well. Those who bought the game from MS Store will have to do it anyways.

For MS Users/Xbox App

  1. Close the game, MS Store, and Xbox App
  2. Press Windows Key + I and click on Time & Settings
  3. Select Language
  4. Under Windows Display Language, set it to English (United States)

Note: If you do not have the English language pack, you will have to download it from Preferred Languages. Just scroll down to find the option on Windows 10. On Win 11, it’s the first option. Click on Add a language and follow the on-screen prompts to download.

Once you have completed the above process, the Age of Empires 4 String Not Found error will be gone for good.
