The Vessel of the Nine is a lore-packed side quest in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate that exists to further explain the role Lodi plays in the campaign and the voices in her head. Although it is available anytime during or after the main quest, it’s optimal to complete it early in the campaign for anyone who would prefer to learn more about the expansion characters and storylines. It goes through thoroughly how to initiate and complete the quest, where the Dark Matter Sources are located and how to finish the final objective.
Beginning the Quest at Aionian Academy
In order to begin the quest, go to the Aionian Academy in Kepler. Near the main gate, you will see a table where you can find Lodi’s journal. Talk to it and the Vessel of the Nine quest will initiate automatically. Your next destination will be marked on the map towards the first Dark Matter Source.
Locating the Dark Matter Sources
The core part of the Vessel of the Nine quest involves tracking down Dark Matter Sources hidden on specific corpses scattered throughout Kepler. These aren’t just random locations; each site is narratively significant and helps unravel the mystery of Lodi’s internal struggle.
For the first objective zone, head behind the large filter tank at one of the locked doors to campus. You will find the first Dark Matter Source on a body concealed behind it.
The quest will then direct you towards another place. There, look around the covered supply boxes—you will find a body with Dark Matter stains on it.
For the final source, go to the ramp to the central platform that crosses over a chasm. Drop underneath the ramp and look around a locked Kepler destination chest. The final corpse is here with the final sample of Dark Matter you will require to advance.
Finding the Last Signal
With all the Dark Matter Sources collected, your final objective is to look for a strange signal that exists in the same general area as the last body. Look up in the direction of the cylindrical magnetic crane, which is suspended far above the chasm. That’s where the signal is.
To reach it, ascend the nearby rock outcropping on one of the sides of the platform area. From there, position a leap to the crane. Once upon it, play with the pulsing blue symbol etched into the crane’s surface.
This conversation will reveal the true origin of the voices in the mind of Lodi, providing vital narrative resolution to her subplot. It’s a sensitive yet powerful moment that ties together strands of the Edge of Fate’s darker lore.
Upon completion of the Vessel of the Nine, you’ll receive a Kepler destination weapon, randomly selected from the current loot pool. Additionally, players are awarded Fated Ciphers, which can be used to decode more powerful weapons later in the game. The quest not only offers narrative insight but also valuable loot for those looking to expand their arsenal early on.
