In Anno 117: Pax Romana, specialists are one of the most powerful tools you can utilize in shaping your cities. Just think of them as portable upgrades, cards you slot into key buildings to give you a boost in production, improve resident satisfaction, strengthen defenses, or even enhance naval power. This means that just the right specialists will make a big difference in efficiency, resource output, and overall stability when your settlements grow.
Below is a complete breakdown of how specialists work, how to get more of them, and every specialist we currently know about in Pax Romana.
What Specialists Do in Anno 117

Specialists function a lot like buff cards that you slot into a villa or an Officium, and any buildings within that range receive their bonuses. They do not cost upkeep and can be freely moved around your islands to support economic, military, and research or other key systems.
Because their effectiveness depends on how many buildings fall within their radius, good city planning becomes even more important. If you are strategic about where you place a villa or Officium, a single specialist can transform the output of entire districts.
You get one free specialist through early quests, but most of your collection will come from exploration, diplomacy, and trade.
How to Get More Specialists

There are three main ways to recruit specialists in Anno 117: Pax Romana:
- Trading: You can buy specialists from other players’ trading posts on their islands. The catch is that specialists aren’t guaranteed to appear every time, so you might need to check back frequently.
- Contracts: Players’ lighthouses offer contracts that you can complete; finishing them gives you a chance to roll a specialist reward – not guaranteed, but a solid option as your trade routes expand.
- Quests: Specialists are rewards for a great many quests, often from NPCs, other players, and even the ones you offer. As your influence increases, the quality and rarity of the specialists offered increase.
