Grubs are among the key early-game resources in Grounded 2 employed to make some of the weapons, armor, and other survival equipment at the Workbench. Unlike much of the other materials in plain view, however, Grubs are under the ground, so they’re a bit harder to find—particularly at the start of your adventure.

If you’re not sure where to begin digging and what to use, this guide lays out exactly where and how to locate Grubs early on in the game.

How to Find Grubs Underground

Grubs don’t wander about on top of the ground like ants or mites. Rather, they will be found below ground, marked by spots of scurrying dirt. These little piles gradually squirm through the dirt, and they’re your signal that a Grub is below the ground.

To actually unearth a Grub, you’ll first have to unlock the Omni-tool. This add-on is bestowed upon you early in the main campaign, shortly after speaking to Sloane for the first time. With it, go up to an area of shifting dirt, and you’ll be prompted to dig. This will push the Grub to the surface so that you can kill it and harvest its parts.

It’s important to note that if you’re riding a Buggy at the time, you’ll need to dismount to interact with the dirt. Also, Grubs are harder to track at night—even with a Torch—so it’s best to hunt for them during the daytime when visibility is clearer.

Best Early Game Grub Locations

If you’re new to it and want hassle-free access to Grubs, there are two sure locations in the park where they show up on a regular basis.

One of the best areas to start your search is close to the Ceremony Pamphlet, a giant folded pamphlet located between the Snackbar Ranger Outpost and the Snackbar Anthill. This open space usually has one or more plots of rolling dirt, so it’s perfect for fast and simple Grub farming.

Another great spot is located southwest of the Snackbar Ranger Outpost, near a large drinks can. Just south of this can is a broad patch of open terrain where Grubs regularly appear. Swing by these locations during the day, and you’ll likely find at least one moving dirt patch to dig up.

It’s a good habit to pass by these areas on a regular basis, particularly when resupplying for early armor or tool enhancements. With each trip, you can be guaranteed at least two Grubs will show up, providing you with a reliable source of the materials you’ll need.
