Of all the weapons you can discover in Abyssus, few value precision and patience as highly as the Brine Revolver. It’s not about spraying bullets or crowd management — it’s about placing a group of strong shots precisely where they have to. If you have the aim, this revolver has the ability to wipe out bosses and elites in seconds. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself struggling.
This guide covers how to unlock the Brine Revolver, how it works, and the best builds to maximize its devastating potential.
How to Unlock the Brine Revolver
The Brine Revolver isn’t available right away. To unlock it, you’ll first need to collect every other weapon and ability in the game except the Engine Rifle. Most of these are hidden in nooks during your runs, so keep an eye out.
Once you’ve cleared the tutorial, return to the lobby and look left. Near the workbench, you’ll find the Brine Revolver sitting on a barrel. Pick it up, and it’s yours permanently.
How the Brine Revolver Works
The Brine Revolver is a high-damage, precision weapon. Both its primary and secondary fire modes only hold six shots, meaning every bullet counts.
- Primary Fire: Unscoped, rapid shots for closer-range fights.
- Secondary Fire: Scoped shots that greatly increase precision damage.
Mastering this gun is all about learning how to aim weak points. Enemies tend to indicate vulnerabilities through glowing or highly-colored spots, and aligning your scope with these spots allows you to deal your maximum damage.
Unlike the Engine Rifle, which deals damage across large groups of enemies, the Brine Revolver is all about taking out enemies with minimal shots.
Best Primary and Secondary Fire
Since you’ll always be limited to six rounds, the Brine Revolver benefits most from fire options that increase per-shot damage.
Primary Fire – Large Caliber
The Large Caliber module provides your bullets a much greater damage, especially to vulnerabilities. The drawback is that it fires slower, but considering you only have six shots to start with, that disadvantage is trivial. It’s the perfect option for tearing apart bosses and elites.
- Unlock Requirement: Finish an Expedition with the Brine Revolver.
Secondary Fire – Quick Scope
The Quick Scope module makes quick reflexes pay off by boosting your damage when you shoot shortly after scoping in. For skilled marksmen, this greatly enhances the revolver’s already considerable burst capability. A well-timed Quick Scope shot can score hundreds of points with a single trigger pull.
- Unlock Requirement: Kill three bosses with a weak spot shot while scoped.
(If you’re less confident in accuracy, you might consider using the Shotgun instead — its wider spread is forgiving.)
Best Ability
Since the Brine Revolver performs at long range but underperforms at close range, you should counterbalance your loadout with a melee-focused ability. The Anchor is ideal for this. It gives you a high-damage close-range attack, filling in the revolver’s largest weakness.
You will locate the Anchor in front of a procedurally generated locked door in the Gardens. If you’d like a chance at opening it, take at least one key.
Best Aspects
Aspects in Abyssus are run-to-run, but some trees provide excellent synergies with the precision play of the Brine Revolver:
- Shadow (Primary Fire): Dims and tags enemies for enhanced damage. This charges directly into the revolver’s greatest advantage — getting critical weak spot shots.
- Lightning (Secondary Fire): Chain Lightning compensates for the revolver’s low fire rate. All scoped shots can arc to adjacent foes, providing you with some crowd control without compromising damage.
- Freeze (Ability Slot): It cooperates nicely with the Anchor, allowing you to freeze enemies in position before hitting them. Freeze effects also increase damage against elites and bosses, causing your shots to hit harder.
It is highly advisable to invest Soul Fragments in order to unlock rerolls, as Aspect RNG can otherwise get you stuck with suboptimal choices.
Best Charms
Charms are random, but some are specifically designed for the Brine Revolver:
- Hawkeye – Deals more damage the farther away you are. Ideal for scoped long-range precision shots.
- Giant Slayer – Increased damage to bosses and elites, allowing you to remove priority targets even more quickly.
Both of these feed directly into the revolver’s reputation as a precision boss-killer.
