Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is bursting at the seams with secrets, side quests, and hidden storylines—over 200 quests in total. But if you’re hunting for one of the game’s best-kept secrets (and possibly a path to a hidden “good ending”), the Royal Geographers faction questline should be on your radar.

This walkthrough contains everything you need to unlock the mystery of the Knights’ Tombs—where they are, how to reach them, and what threats lie within.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Royal Geographer Faction Walkthrough

Starting the Quest

You’ll unlock the Royal Geographers faction quest after you obtain Excalibur, the first shard of King Arthur’s soul, in the main story “A World to Win.” This also unlocks the Tomb of Sir Lancelot, starting you on your journey to discover the resting places of the legendary Knights of the Round Table.

From here, your quest in the Royal Geographers slowly unravels, each tomb revealing more legend, fantastic treasure, and a larger piece of the puzzle as to Arthur’s shattered heritage.

Tomb Access & Artifact Requirements

Each tomb is sealed and requires a specific artifact-related seal to open. These artifacts are related to King Arthur’s heritage and are acquired by advancing the story:

  • Excalibur Seal – Opens Sir Lancelot’s Tomb
  • Palamedes’ Shield – Needed for Sir Gawain and Sir Dagonet’s Tombs
  • Crown Seal – Needed for Sir Galahad’s Tomb and the Knight That Never Came

Let’s now break down each Knight’s Tomb location and challenge:

Sir Lancelot’s Tomb – Horns of the South

Location: Found on the eastern peninsula near the All-Mother’s Temple.

Head down to the beach and swim along the coastline. Look for a small ruined camp by a campfire—Drowners are nearby, so prepare yourself. A shady trader is conveniently located outside the entrance to the tomb with some exotic loot.

Enter with the Excalibur Seal. Inside, you will fight Lancelot and the pain and regret that have followed his fall. Once you have defeated him and claimed his mantle, you are visited by a mysterious figure, Fionola, who invites you to join the Royal Geographers.

Sir Gawain’s Tomb – Cuanacht Region

Location: West of the middle city in Cuanacht, across a river bridge.

After completing the local main quest, cross the bridge, then look north and drop down to a hidden ledge. The tomb is tucked behind some rocks.

Inside, expect a gauntlet of Dryads (bring antidotes!). You’ll face Sir Bertilak the Green Knight before taking on the undead Sir Gawain himself. Survive both fights to collect their gear and continue your quest.

Sir Dagonet’s Tomb – Northeast Cuanacht

Location: Northwest of the Forlorn Gate.

Use the teleporter to Forlorn Gate, then head northeast along the rock wall. You’ll climb a hill to the entrance.

This tomb goes whole hog gothic horror atmosphere—dark corridors, illusions, deadly traps, and even fake walls. Navigate carefully until you reach Dagonet’s Chamber, where the body of the Jester Knight and some strange surprises await.

Sir Galahad’s Tomb – Forlorn Swords

Location: Northeastern Forlorn Swords, beneath the Seat of the Elders.

How to Access: Finish the quests “Divided We Fall” and “The Long Defeat” in order to access the tomb.

Expect an undead-filled dungeon crawl capped with a climactic fight versus Resurrected Sir Galahad. Kill him and you’ll receive his sword and armor—and a second visitation from Fionola. You can ask about Caradoc this time. Interrogate her thoroughly here—her answers provide crucial context for the true goals of the Royal Geographers.

The Knight That Never Came – The Final Tomb

This is the last and most lore-intensive tomb, and it’s a nice reward for people who like Arthurian legend. The “Knight That Never Came” is none other than Mordred, King Arthur’s tragic, traitorous son.

Inside, you’ll battle waves of undead before meeting Govannon, a cryptic figure with a personal quest. Help him retrieve a missing Chisel, then take on Sir Vast’s Ghost to complete the tomb’s challenge. As a reward, Govannon opens his store with endgame crafting materials and the sleek Ashen Veil Set.

Finish the tomb, and you’ll meet with Fionola for the last time, completing the Royal Geographer’s questline once and for all—and drawing you nearer to Avalon’s most carefully guarded secrets.

Each tomb isn’t only full of challenging enemies and rich lore, but also offers up some of the game’s best sets of weaponry and armor. And if you complete all the tombs, you’ll unlock major story revelations that tie directly into the game’s ending.
