In classic metroidvania fashion, Revenge of the Savage Planet commits wholeheartedly to exploration, and then you begin to have fun when you start getting upgrades. It’s not just a question of jumping higher or farther; you’ll need heavy firepower to shoot through webbing or shatter clumps of amber in your path.
When you come onto this bizarre alien world for the first time, you have little more than your spacesuit and a semi-working 3D printer. The printer becomes your new best friend; it prints out your initial gun, and then it’s your call. Survival is about scavenging, scanning, and piecing together your weapon arsenal very slowly.
Getting All Upgrades in the Game
Alien alloy is your primary currency for upgrading, generally kept in hidden chests or given when environmental puzzles are solved and when killing challenging bosses. Many of these chests will be found behind finicky platforming areas or in unaccessed areas until late in the game, so backtracking with the new tools of the triple jump, grappling hook, and bomb upgrades is crucial.
Science experiments, which are like mini-goals, release precious blueprints upon completion. These include scanning unusual creatures and killing foes in innovative ways. These are typically easy but need some trial-and-error effort and observation of your environment.
Resource gathering is another mainstay. Such things as carbon, aluminium, and rare crystals must be used to craft most of the upgrades. Scan frequently with your scanner to find nodes, and blast them instead of melee-ing for better rewards. Go back through previously visited areas as you access new equipment to be able to get to secrets previously out of reach. A lot of the game’s best upgrades are found in vertical or off-the-beaten-path locations that encourage curiosity and persistence.
Gun upgrades, armour upgrades, and equipment upgrades can also be tied to quest missions or side quests, so you’re more than happy to do everything that you discover. Some of these upgrades are even behind optional tasks or secret locations, check behind waterfalls, strange walls, and irradiating vegetation, and don’t forget probes and bait.
How to Unlock All Upgrades in Revenge of the Savage Planet?
Improvements to unlocking start with your suit’s scanner. You’ll be scanning almost everything: plants, animals, minerals, threats, even the gross goo that’s seeping out of cave walls. Each scan adds to your databank, and as you hit specific markers—like listing 25% of the planet’s flora and fauna—you’ll unlock new tech. The game will alert you once something’s ready, and you can head back to the printer to print it out if you have acquired the necessary resources like carbon, aluminium, or silicon.
It’s well worth getting into the habit of scanning constantly. Use tap-to-scan mode whenever you enter a new area or discover something unusual. Not only does this help you progress, but it also pays to explore—some of the most valuable upgrades are hidden behind data collection milestones.
Later on in the game, you’ll receive a quest called Upgrade-O-Rama, which gives you a chain of quirky mini-games. These tasks are generally creative—shooting bait as a distraction for an animal, building a giant slide out of strings, or holding a Puffbird kabob together with one bullet. Completing these unlocks even more potent gear and gives you a good reason to play around with your gadgets.
Not all of them need to be hunted down individually, though. Some are written directly into the story and will automatically become available as you progress through the game. As long as you keep moving forward and checking in on your wisecracking robot travel buddy, you’ll keep unlocking better equipment at a steady pace.
