If you’re a Bermuda triangle fiction enthusiast, or believe alien tech is at the epicentre of this mysterious triangle in the far Atlantic, you’re in for a spine-chilling horror mystery debut this November. The new Dark prequel has got nothing but fans excited for a origin story on Netflix.
Netflix 1899 – What’s all the buzz about?
Netflix announced that its upcoming series “1899” will premiere on the show-streaming platform on November 17 this year, with fan speculation all over the internet about the storyline. A closer look at the trailer reveals the journey of an industrial revolution-era vessel in the Atlantic and its crew members in despair from a sudden lack of reality check. It appears that the crew has received a message about the possible spotting of one HMS Prometheus that was lost at sea almost more than a decade ago. Except, this time, the transcript reads that the crew on-board are presumably alive!
Starring Andreas Pietschman (Eyk Larsen), Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen (Krester), Miguel Bernardeau (Angel) and Mathilde Ollivier (Clemence), the sci-fi/horror series takes its viewers on a suspenseful rollercoaster as the main characters struggle to cope with the convolutions in time, space and physics. With the usual spotting of compass malfunctions, undead characters and mazy ship interiors, 1899 delves deeper into the life histories of the main characters and unravels their personal agendas on this ship.
For a quick recap, this isn’t the first time the Devil’s triangle has been a hot go-to for directors and fans alike. Cristopher Smith’s 2009 classic ‘The Triangle’ introduced conspiracy theory fans to the Bermuda saga, followed by Thor Freudenthal’s 2013 hit ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’. It is only cakewalk to figure out that the stage was already set for bangers in this particular sub-genre. However, what distinguishes 1899 from its predecessors is that it allows for character interaction within the setting of the ship and furthers their development through the episodes. Each episode has been noted to focus on the history of one character, as they interact with the other members. Despite the obvious time-consuming nature of such a feat, the script rather progresses quickly leaving behind a trajectory of different narratives.
Mystery Unravelled
Overall, it has been a long-awaited series for fans around the world. If you’re ready to switch on panic mode as the scenes move through empty hulls and creaking metal rooms, tune in to Netflix for 1899’s premiere this Thursday. One thing, though. If your German is a little cranky, turning on the subtitles would be a wise choice!
