With the recent ad posting on Microsoft’s career page, there seems to be hope for the JRPG genre to make its way to Xbox. Having Persona 5 on the Game Pass was a huge step in the right direction, and now JRPG fans can keep their eyes peeled for the next exclusive title; Shin Megami Tensei.
During the recent XboxEra podcast titled The Third Annual Grubbsmas Specialtacular, Jeff Grubb and Nick Baker spoke about the Shin Megami Tensei titles, and how Xbox will be making a move on them very soon. Microsoft is planning to make another deal with Altus to bring Shin Megami Tensei games 3,4, and 5 to the Xbox platform. The Megami Tensei series was largely marketed to Nintendo DS and Switch, and some of the titles catered to the PlayStation as well. This will be a huge move for Microsoft to bring Japanese content to their gaming platform.
The latest in the Megami Tensei series is Shin Megami Tensei V, released last year for the Nintendo Switch. The Persona series is a direct spin-off from the title and could be another reason why Microsoft would like to strike a deal. Whether they would introduce the Megami Tensei games to the Game Pass is unclear, and so is the timeline for the release. It is speculated that it would take just as long as how it was for Persona 5.
