Tower of Fantasy had recently taken the world by storm but lately, it’s going downhill- especially in China who have had the game for six months prior to the worldwide release. While it’s still an exciting and playable game with your online buddies, it has several problems that newer players are starting to note. If the game devs of ToF don’t step up soon, the future is looking bleak for Tower of Fantasy.
Tower of Fantasy’s Downfall
Players, both F2P and P2W have had several complaints about Tower of Fantasy lately and this digs up older controversies the game has been through. Overall, Tower of Fantasy, despite being in development since before Genshin Impact according to some rumours, is still a very unpolished game. Below are some categories in which Tower of Fantasy is failing.
Stolen Assets
Tower of Fantasy has been accused of stealing and plagiarising items and animations from other popular games near its genre. From the very beginning, one of the first promotional videos of the game featured a copy of a Honkai Impact’s weapon which they later took down after some complaints. They also plagiarised an animation by a small Japanese creator for one of their character trailers. The developers took down even this after the Japanese creator raised an issue with it on Twitter. In both these cases, Tower of Fantasy blamed its third-party partners for these issues.
Even after the game’s release, several character animations, movesets, and weapons seem awfully similar to characters and weapons from Honkai Impact. Of course, there’s always the debate about whether it’s plagiarised or heavily inspired but overall the game lacks a certain sense of originality.
Game-breaking Bugs
Tower of Fantasy is loaded with bugs to the point several P2W players or “Whales” are quitting the game because their money felt wasted. The game, at the time of its global release, boasted a bug that allowed its players to log in from a second device after purchase to get free SSR weapons worth double the price paid. They even abused this system to reset Dungeon Rewards to get powerful Matrixes for their weapons without having to grind for them. In response, the developers banned players from logging into the game from a second device. Other similar bugs have popped up since which players have abused for free rewards and powerful SSR weapons.
There are also minor bugs in the game which make certain things easier in the game and since these are minor the devs haven’t addressed them yet. The several bugs also mean several Emergency Maintenance checks which prevent players from playing during that time.
Hackers in Battle Royale
This is only limited to the Chinese server as they are the only ones who have the Battle Royale mode. Hackers have lately hijacked the Battle Royale mode to easily and unfairly win battles that have pissed off the normal players as the game isn’t hacker-proof and the devs have yet done nothing concrete about it.
Power Creep & P2W
The game has a lot of power-creep and players who are P2W are clearly stronger by a mile to the point that F2P players can’t even keep up. This is dangerous as it will soon urge the F2P players to leave and it’ll even make things boring for P2W players as they will know whoever spends more will have a better account.
Many players have even complained about the unpolished combat system and lacklustre enemy movesets in Tower of Fantasy. Overall, the game, despite showing promise is already starting to fail its players in several ways. It’s riddled with bugs and flaws which haven’t been addressed and if this keeps up the game won’t last long.
