Ashes of War are weapon art skills in Elden Ring, which is a mechanism that allows you to attach a certain attribute to a weapon and enhance its use. You can choose the appropriate skill you want to put on your weapon, as long as it is compatible with the item you want to use. There are plenty of Ashes of War in the game that you can choose from, however, you will need to collect them first.

Some of the spells can add a new type of damage to your weapon in addition to the default Physical Damage, such as the Ash of War: Ice Spear, which adds Frost Damage. While Physical Damage dealt is a one time thing, you can build up Frost Damage in your enemy and make them more susceptible to it when it is past a certain level. This helps you immensely in taking down enemies quickly, as they are easier to kill. You can take advantage of Ashes of War by using them on all your weapons and dealing lots of damage to your opponents.
To find the Ash of War: Ice Spear, you will need to make your way to the Lake-Facing Cliff Site of Grace in Liurnia, which is on the northern side of Limgrave and the northernmost section of the game map. You can get here through Stormveil Castle, in which you will have to kill the bosses Margit and Godrick. Alternatively, you can use another route on the cliffside route which is on the eastern side of the castle, near the broken bridge. to the east of the castle next to the broken bridge.
When you get to the Lake-Facing Cliff Site of Grace, you will notice two tombstones in the northeastern direction that you will need to go towards. There is another Site of Grace on this path, just next to the Raya Lucaria Academy, where a boss will spawn only at night. Kill the Night’s Calvary boss by staying on horseback for the duration of the battle so that you take less damage from their hits. Once you’ve killed the boss, they will drop Ash of War: Ice Spear.
