Splatoon 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game released by Nintendo and coming out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. With the release date yet to be announced, players can choose from two options – Inklings or Octolings – when it comes down to their playable character. Each can use various weapon types, which all differ in abilities and imagery depending on their resemblance.
The upcoming sequel to one of Nintendo’s most popular titles will continue on with the same general gameplay mechanics we’ve seen before – except for some minor changes. This includes adding two new movement options called Squid Roll and Squid Surge. When these moves are used properly, it becomes easier to take out your opponents.
This guide will show how to Squid Roll in Splatoon 3.

How to do Squid Roll
As you descend into the ink, your squid rapidly spins, affording you quick movement and immunity to enemy attacks. The key to Squid Roll is using this ability on the surface. You won’t be able to rotate on the surface for long, but a small jump will help you evade enemy attacks and instantly change your travel direction.
To perform the squid roll,
- You must first dive into ink on a flat surface to perform an ink spin.
- You need to be in Swim Form inside the ink and moving at a relatively fast speed.
- When moving quickly enough, turn your left joystick in another direction by at least 90 degrees and press the B button simultaneously.
- If you push the joystick far enough in another direction, your character will come out of the ink spinning.
One important aspect of Squid Rolls is that you can chain them together. You can spin out of the ink by simply changing directions and jumping until your speed slows down enough to stop. The Training Room is a great place to practice this move and get accustomed to it. You can ink the entire area and jump around without any pressure.
