Raft is a Survival Game developed by Redbeet Interactive and released by Axolot Games. Your goal, whether you’re alone or with a group, is to survive an epic oceanic trip over a dangerous sea. Gather junk to survive, build your raft, and be wary of the dangers of the sea.
Players wake on a huge, blue ocean completely alone and with no shore in sight, trapped on a little raft with nothing but an old plastic hook! Survival will be difficult with a dry throat and an empty stomach.
Raft now has fishing bait, one of several new goods added when Redbeet’s survival game exited early access, but you can’t build it yourself. To obtain fishing bait in Raft, you must construct one of the game’s new machines, but it is well worth the effort. At the Trading Post, you may swap fish for a new item that nets you unusual items.
In this guide, we’ll see how to fish and get fishing bait.

How to Fish in Raft
You can start fishing quite early in the game. When you place one plank and one rope on the research table, the basic wooden fishing rod unlocks. This instructs you on how to create a wooden fishing pole, which you may make using:
- Six planks
- Eight ropes
You may also learn to make a metal fishing rod by placing one scrap, one bolt, and one rope on the research table. Making it necessarily requires:
- 3 Scrap
- 1 Bolt
- 8 Ropes
For certain fish and other products, the capture rate varies between the two. The metal rod, for example, is more likely to catch mackerel and catfish, whereas the wooden rod is more likely to catch herring and pomfret.
Take everything you catch to the Trading Post, where you can obtain Trade Coins to exchange for additional products.
How to Get Fishing Bait in Raft
Fishing bait may be purchased from the Trading Post for Trash Cubes. Because most Trading Posts have very few items of fishing bait in stock – it is the end of the world, after all – you’ll need to go around to different Trading Posts if you want to stock up on bait.
To obtain Trash Cubes, you must first construct the Recycler. When you have the bait, you may pick where to fish based on it.
Sharks are an ever-present danger on the ocean when you’re out gathering goods or fishing, but with proper strategy, you may easily confuse and dispatch sharks. Continue reading our Raft game instructions section to learn more about the game.
