Project Zomboid lets players explore its open-world Zombie apocalypse. The main objective is to survive the longest with whatever is available in the game. Project Zomboid can also be played with friends, as surviving the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested terrain is more fun in a group. In this guide, we will see how to play multiplayer in Project Zomboid.
How to Play Multiplayer with Friends in Project Zomboid
In Project Zomboid, you can play on a server or be a host as well. Since Beta 41 had been added to the game in version 41.60, you can now play the game in multiplayer. But the option is not available by default, so you can follow these steps to enable it in Project Zomboid Build 41.
First off, make sure you are not using any mods. If there are mods in the game, you will have to disable them to make multiplayer work.
Installing Beta 41
- Go to Steam and find Project Zomboid in-game library
- Right-click on the game, click on properties
- Go to tab BETAS, then select b41multiplayer in the drop-down menu
- After installation, restart the game to make multiplayer work
With this, you can now host your server or join a dedicated server, or your friend’s servers too. To host, go to the main menu and click on Host. Create your server in the settings option and you are good to go. You can invite your friends or be invited to a server after this via Steam.
To search for a dedicated server you can input the name or IP address in the Internet Tab. The Internet Tab will also show you all the servers that are online at this moment. You can also check the Join option in the main menu and scroll down the server list manually to find a server.
You will need at least 4GB worth of memory to keep your server running smoothly, and another 200MB per player for any additional players that would be joining your server.
That’s all there is to know about how to play multiplayer in Project Zomboid. If you liked this then you can check out our other guides as well.
