What is Overwatch 2 Hero Progression System?
The Hero Progression system in Overwatch 2 introduces an intriguing mechanism that ushers players into a new era of hero mastery. This system is elegantly simple: every time you participate in a match, the heroes you control accumulate experience points (EXP).
These experience points form the foundation for Hero Levels, which, in turn, unlock an array of captivating Emblems – medals that commemorate and celebrate specific hero accomplishments.

While the most apparent achievements, such as eliminations, wins, and hero-specific feats like healing teammates, are acknowledged, the Hero Progression system delves much deeper, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the game itself.
As you traverse through your Overwatch journey, the fruits of your labor come to fruition within your Career Profile’s Progression section.
Hero Progression System Rewards
Aside from the sense of accomplishment that comes with leveling up your heroes, the Hero Progression system also introduces rewards that allow you to showcase your mastery of a particular hero. For instance, each character has six tiers of Name Cards that can be unlocked by playing games. To earn these Name Cards, especially the higher tiers, you will need to demonstrate true mastery of a hero. The tiers are as follows:
- Tier 1: Hero Level 8
- Tier 2: Hero Level 15
- Tier 3: Hero Level 30
- Tier 4: Hero Level 75
- Tier 5: Hero Level 125
- Tier 6: Hero Level 200
In addition to Name Cards, there are also player titles associated with each hero in the game. These titles come in three tiers: “Title,” “Heroic Title,” and “Epic Title.” Each hero has a unique player title assigned to them, such as “Bastet” for Ana, “Outlaw” for Ashe, and “Renegade” for Baptiste.
Players can earn hero EXP in all types of matches, including Quick Play, Arcade, and Ranked. Additionally, even playing the new PvE content will contribute to Hero Progression levels. However, it’s worth noting that certain emblems cannot be progressed in PvE matches.
