Nvidia introduced their all-new RTX 4080 12 GB and 16 GB video cards alongside the RTX 4090 at the Geforce Beyond event last night. These new graphics cards are a successor to the very popular RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti GPUs. With a newer architecture, improved components, and a design overhaul, the RTX 4080 GPUs have been built to outperform their last-generation counterparts by up to 200%.
More details on the RTX 4080 12 GB
The RTX 4080 12 GB video card is currently the lowest-tier entry in the RTX 40 series. This graphics card packs 7,680 CUDA cores and comes with 12 GB GDDR6X memory which is based on a 192-bit bus.
Like other RTX 40 series GPUs, the 4080 12 GB has a high base and boost clock speeds. The base clock speed of the 4080 12 GB is 2.31 GHz and the card can boost up to 2.61 GHz. The card has a TDP of 285 W. Nvidia recommends a 700 W power supply for this GPU.
The RTX 4080 12 GB will not get a Founder’s Edition version. This video card will only be available via add-in board partner models.
More details on the RTX 4080 16 GB
The RTX 4080 16 GB variant also comes with slightly bumped-up specs alongside the increase in VRAM. It comes with 9.728 CUDA cores, almost 2,000 more than the base variant. Apart from the slightly slimmed numbers, other specs remain the same throughout the RTX 4080 models.
However, the card is clocked 100 MHz slower. Its base clock is 2.21 GHz and it can boost up to 2.51 GHz. The card has a TDP of 320 W. Nvidia recommends a 750 W power supply for the 16 GB RTX 4080.
Unlike the 12 GB variant, the 16 GB RTX 4080 will get a Founder’s Edition. Leading AIB partners have also showcased their 4080 designs.
