Nvidia finally lifted the curtains on the Ada Lovelace flagship GPU, the RTX 4090. This graphics card will become the new performance king when it becomes available to customers on October 12. The card was revealed in the Geforce Beyond event alongside DLSS 3 and the RTX 4080 models.
More details on the RTX 4090
The RTX 4090 is a massive jump from the last-gen flagship, the RTX 3090 Ti. This new video card will pack 16,384 CUDA cores and will come with 24 GB GDDR6X memory. Although the memory size has not been increased from last-gen, the bus width has been increased to 384-bit.
The RTX 4090 also comes with increased boost and clock base clock speeds, unlike the last generation. The new GPUs have a base clock of 2.23 GHz and a boost clock speed of 2.52 GHz.
New technologies in the RTX 4090
Coming to the new and updated technologies found in the RTX 4090, this card comes with 3rd generation ray tracing cores. These deliver better RT performance when compared to the RT cores on the RTX 30 series. The new GPU also comes with 4th generation Tensor cores.
The card, however, is PCIe Gen 4. Nvidia debunked all leaks surrounding the fact that the RTX 40 series will be PCIe Gen 5 with this launch. The company also has completely ditched SLI support with the new generation of GPUs.
Dimensions
The RTX 4090 is a massive video card. The Founder’s Edition variant is 304 mm long and 137 mm wide. It occupies 3 slots in a computer case, which roughly translates to 61 mm in height. Add-in board partners have come up with even beefier designs for this flagship video card. The ASUS ROG Strix and MSI Suprim X variants are some noteworthy mentions.
The graphics card has a maximum operating temperature of 90℃. Its rated TDP is up to 450 W. Nvidia recommends users at least an 850 W power supply with the RTX 4090.
Overall, the RTX 4090 is an absolute behemoth of a video card.
