Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated video games of 2022. This upcoming first-person shooter will continue the story from Modern Warfare 2019 reboot. Task Force 141, headed by Captain Price will be back in its iconic campaign as the newly formed team takes care of global threats.
However, with the release schedule of this year’s Call of Duty, Activision is following EA and Halo’s steps in launching their titles. Both Battlefield and Halo launched their recent games in parts to keep the titles hyped for a long time. This strategy is being applied to Modern Warfare 2 as it has three release dates now.
When is Modern Warfare 2 launching?
Modern Warfare 2 will launch in three phases.
- The campaign will be made available to the public on October 20 as part of a pre-order bonus. This launch will be up to a week before the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer hits the market. The developers have showcased parts of the campaign. The gameplay looks promising and the graphics look breathtaking.
- The multiplayer will launch on October 28, which is also advertised as the official launch date of the game.
- The battle royale mode of this game, which is expected to be a Warzone sequel, will supposedly drop 19 days after the launch of the game.
It is worth noting that Warzone was originally launched as a free-to-play expansion to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot. Thus, it is sensible that a Warzone sequel might be launched as a free-to-play expansion to this year’s Modern Warfare.
Thus, the complete release window is spread over a month. This might also mean that gamers will lose interest in the title over time.
The campaign launches a week before multiplayer hits the market. Judging from the average length of a Call of Duty story, it will never take gamers a week to finish it. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 was 6 and a quarter hours long. Black Ops Cold War would also take 6 hours to finish. Vanguard also takes around 6 hours on average to beat.
However, Call of Duty is one of the few titles to have an exceptionally low retirement rate. Only around 4% of gamers stop playing after the Campaign ends and move towards Multiplayer. With the main two multiplayer modes dropping days later, it is normal that gamers will lose interest in the title.
