Mika was introduced to us in the Weinlesefest Festival in Version 3.1 as a rather timid boy in the Knights of Favonius. Despite his timid nature, he was greatly respected by his seniors and peers including the likes of Varka who’s the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. He has a talent for cartography and in this article, we’re going to take a look at his kit and see if he can really map the battlefield for his teammates and aid in support.
Mika’s Talents in Genshin Impact 3.5
Mika is already known as a 4-star Cryo polearm character. He’s also leaked to be a Cryo healer. Since he’s getting his release in Version 3.5 and the fact that he’s a part of Eula’s Recon Team, we’re curious to see if he only plays as a healer or also as a specialised Cryo support for Eula who’s the best Physcial DPS in the game as of Version 3.4.
Normal Attack: Spear of Favonius – Point Passage
Normal Attack: Performs up to 5 consecutive strikes using his crossbow and spear.
Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to opponents along the way.
Plunging Attack: Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AOE DMG upon impact.
E. Starfrost Swirl
Mika uses his crossbow to attack, granting nearby active characters in your party Soulwind, which increases their ATK SPD.
Will take effect in different ways if Tapped or Held.
Tap
Fires a Flowfrost Arrow that can pierce through opponents, dealing Cryo DMG to enemies it comes into contact with.
Hold
Goes into Aiming Mode, locking on to an opponent and firing a Rimestar Flare at them, dealing Cryo DMG. When the Rimestar Flare hits, it will rise before exploding, launching Rimestar Shards into a maximum of 3 other opponents, dealing Cryo DMG.
“Stars burst ‘neath the frosted skies.”
Q. Skyfeather Song
Derives the ability to spur his teammates on from the recited prayers of the knightly order, regenerating HP for all nearby party members. This healing is based on Mika’s Max HP and will grant them the Eagleplume state.
Eagleplume
When the Normal Attacks of characters affected by Eagleplume hit an opponent, Mika will help them regenerate HP based on his Max HP.
Characters affected by this state can only regenerate HP in this way once per short interval of time.
“Carry hope when in dire straits, and keep vigil when all is well… For that pure white plume shall at last guide the lost wayfarers.”
Mika’s Passive Talents in Genshin Impact 3.5
While Mika’s primary talents are only focused on Cryo application and healing, his passive talents does give him good synergy with Eula. Depending on his healing abilities, he can be a massive contributor to Eula teams that struggle with survivability.
Rapid-Fire Suppression
The Soulwind state caused by Starfrost Swirl (E) will grant characters the Detector effect under the following circumstances and in the following ways, increasing their Physical DMG by 10%.
- If the Flowfrost Arrow hits more than one opponent, each additional opponent hit will generate 1 Detector stack.
- When a Rimestar Shard hits an opponent, it will generate 1 Detector stack. Each Rimestar Shard can trigger the effect 1 time.
The Soulwind state can have a maximum of 3 Detector stacks, and if Starfrost Swirl is cast again during this duration, the pre-existing Soulwind state and all its Detector stacks will be cleared.
Geomorphological Mapping
When a character simultaneously affected by Skyfeather Song’s (Q) Eagleplume and Starfrost Swirl’s (E) Soulwind scores a CRIT Hit with their attacks, Soulwind will grant them 1 stack of Detector from Rapid-Fire Suppression. During a single instance of Eagleplume, 1 Detector stack can be gained in this manner.
Additionally, the maximum number of stacks that can be gained through Soulwind alone is increased by 1.
Requires Rapid-Fire Suppression to be unlocked first.
Demarcation
Displays the location of nearby resources unique to Mondstadt on the mini-map.
Overall Thoughts
Mika definitely seems like a Cryo healer support for Physical DPS units like Eula or even Razor. That said, his kit feels bland on paper and will only be deemed great if his healing and Physical DMG buff lives up to other specialised 4-star units like Faruzan, Yun Jin, Sara, Gorou and so on. Now that Yaoyao is out and has set such a high bar for healers, it will be difficult to top that for Mika unless his Cryo application is actually worth it.
We already have a unit like Diona who can provide healing and shield reliably enough for her to still be a part of the meta. Her burst also applies Cryo reliably and at C6 she also provides EM to teammates within its AoE. We think it would be impossible for Mika to top that but if his Physical DMG buff is good then he may be picked over Diona for Physical DPS teams based around Eula or Razor.
