A short pass enables a team to pass a ball quickly and helps to maintain possession. Although it provides accuracy, it is not recommended for long-distance passes. Drags and slants can be quick but, you can’t spare the time to react and so the play will not be successful. And so, it is advisable to mix that strategy with quick receivers and skilled QBs, and thus, you will gain the game steadily. How to Stop Short Passes in Madden 22
Basically, there are 3 steps to stop short passes in this game – Cover up your defense, Use hard flats, and User-control your LB.
Let’s understand all of these steps in detail here:
1. Cover up your defense
This is a very essential strategy to the defense which you will need to apply before another player gives you any trouble with short passes.
For this, tap the Y or Triangle button and press the right stick down. This will teach your defenders to block short-range passes by slightly lowering them under their standard movement pattern.
If you won’t do it, it will offer the receiver more space. On the other hand, when you use this strategy, your opponent player will play the game violently and so he will run to the receiver as soon as the ball is snatched. This way, you will be able to stop the receiver on their tracks.
2. Use hard flats
You can use hard flats when you need to cover the flats in a short yard situation. This is ideal to stop short passes on either side.
When you use the hard flats, you will see that the defense is more determined to guard the short game and leave the space open. However, this trick can be a bit risky as it will be exposed up the field.
To apply this, you need to select a player who is usually outside of the linebacker, then tap on X/A and move the right stick to the right side.
3. User control the Linebackers
This is very easy as you only need to hold down Circle/B and switch to any of the linebackers by using the left stick. If you’re aware of which side passes are going to, then you can control the linebackers on that particular side. You can use that Linebackers manually to stop short passes.
