Is the GTX 1660 Ti good for gaming in August 2022?

Among the final Turing-based GPUs, the GTX 16 series was launched by Nvidia in 2019. With only a few GPUs, this lineup was tailored towards the budget 1080p gaming crowd. It cut the RT cores and packed the first-generation Tensor cores to reduce prices by a solid margin.

Back in the day, neither ray tracing nor DLSS had become mature enough. This kept the margin for entry into the ray tracing quite high. This problem was solved with the launch of the RTX 30 series and the upcoming RTX 40 series of GPUs is expected to further develop ray tracing and temporal upscaling formulae.

Considering all of this, is the GTX 1660 Ti, a three-year-old video card, still relevant in August 2022? Let us find out.

Is the GTX 1660 Ti worth the price in August 2022?

The GTX 1660 Ti is still quite a capable card in 2022. When launched back in 2019, the GTX 1660 Ti was capable of both 1440p and 1080p gaming. Although gamers can still get a solid 1440p performance out of it in 2022, most players should turn the resolution down to 1920 x 1080 if they want to maintain a solid 60 FPS in the latest AAA titles.

Most games can still be played at the highest settings available in the titles. However, some demanding games like Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk 2077 might require gamers to dial down the settings to the High preset to enjoy a stable 60 FPS.

The GTX 1660 Ti beats the GTX 1070 and is quite close to the RTX 2060 12 GB in terms of raster performance. However, we do not recommend getting this card unless you are getting a solid deal on it. At a much cheaper price tag, the Radeon RX 6500 XT levels the 1660 Ti and even beats it in some titles. Thus, we would suggest you get the $200 RX 6500 XT instead of this aging Nvidia card.
