The AMD RX 6000 series marked Team Red’s comeback to the high-end gaming graphics card market. With enhanced RDNA 2 architecture and hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, these cards provide a large performance difference as compared to the previous generation RDNA and GCN 4th generation-based video cards. Results were a significant increase in AMD’s gaming graphics card market share, as seen in monthly Steam Hardware Surveys.
Amongst the several cards introduced this generation, the Radeon RX 6700 XT is a lucrative option. This card is a tier above the 1080p gaming king Radeon RX 6600 XT and a tier below the high-end RX 6800. With 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, this card offers 1440p gaming at a price tag of $450, which makes it cheaper than the RTX 3060. All of this makes it a great choice for gamers who had been waiting for a graphics card for a long time. But, is the RX 6700 XT worth the money? Let us find out.
Radeon RX 6700 XT: Yay or Nay for 1440p Gaming?
Before jumping to conclusions, let us look at the competition. For 1440p gaming, Nvidia has to offer the RTX 3070 and the RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. Both of these cards have 8GB of video memory, with the latter sporting the newer and faster GDDR6X standard. Although this card beats the RX 6700 XT in synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark and Unigine Superposition, they cost much higher than Team Red’s offering. The cost difference is over 150$, and the slight 1-2% performance gain while running modern games at 1440p resolution is thus not justified.
The Radeon RX 6700 XT can even pull off 4K in some titles. While AMD recommends you to get at least an RX 6800 if you want to play 4K, the results achieved with the RX 6700 XT are admirable.
Overall, the Radeon RX 6700 XT is a solid card, more so because it is available at MSRP as compared to Nvidia’s offerings. You can easily bet on it if you are targeting 1440p gaming without breaking the bank.
