Besides the Workbench, the Forge is the most important item for crafting metal weapons, tools and furniture, especially as you start the game. Most of the things you make and upgrade in the initial stage requires the Forge. Hence, as you start the game you should perpetually look to upgrade the Workbench and Forge to at least level 4. How to Upgrade a Forge in Valheim
If you are just starting out with the game, you need to build the Forge first before upgrading it. To build the Forge, you will first have to unlock Copper in the game. Copper unlocks the recipe to build the Forge using the Workbench.
To build the Forge, you require resources such as 4 Stone, 4 Coal, 10 Wood, and 6 Copper. Once you have the resources choose Hammer from the Inventory, switch to crafting by pressing F, press either Q or E to build the Forge, use the left mouse click to place the Forge. We suggest that you use a shaded area to put it down.
To upgrade the Forge to level 2 in Valheim, you will need to build an Anvil. When you acquire bronze in the game, the recipe for the Anvil will be unlocked. You can combine Copper and Tin inside the Forge to make Bronze.
Once you have Bronze, you can make the Anvil and place it near the Forge to upgrade it to level 2. The recipe to make Anvil is 5 Wood, 20 Bronze, and Workbench. Once you have built the Anvil, place it near the Forge and it will upgrade to Level 2.

How to Upgrade the Forge to Level 3, 4, 5, and 6 in Valheim
The process of building all the Forge’s upgradable items are the same. You can to acquire the specific resource that unlocks the recipe of the upgradable item. Select the Hammer from Inventory, have a Workbench nearby, and build the Item. Once the item is built, place it near the Forge.
Forge Cooler
To unlock the Forge Cooler, you need to acquire the Copper and Fine Wood in the game. Once the item is unlocked, you require 25 Fine Wood and 10 Copper to build the Forge Cooler. You can then, place it near the Forge. Build the Forge Cooler before you upgrade the Forge to level 3.
Smith’s Anvil
To unlock the Smith’s Anvil and upgrade the Forge to level 3, you need to acquire Iron in the game. Once the recipe is unlocked use 20 Iron and 5 Wood to build the Smith’s Anvil and place it near the Forge to upgrade.
Forge Toolrack
To unlock the Forge Toolrack and upgrade the Forge to Level 4 in Valheim, you need to acquire Iron. Once the item is unlocked and you have the recipe, you need 15 Iron and 10 Wood to build it. After building, place it near the Forge to upgrade.
Forge Bellows
To unlock the Forge Bellows and upgrade the Forge to level 5, you need to acquire Iron and Chain in the game. The Chain is dropped by Wraiths. There may be a way to craft it as well. Grinding Wheel

Once you have built the Stone Cutter, you can make Sharpening Stone, which is one of the recipes. To make the Grinding Wheel, the recipe is 25 Wood and 1 Sharpening Stone. Place the Grinding Wheel near the Forge and it will be upgraded to level 6.
