Microsoft announced FPS Boost: Now, you can reach up to 120FPS in backward compatible games for Xbox Series X|S. This is a new feature for Xbox Series X|S consoles that increases frames per second (FPS) in a selection of video games. Higher framerates turn visual look of the game smoother and also, it can help gameplay feel more reactive.

About FPS Boost on Xbox Series X|S

Microsoft introduced FPS Boost, a feature included in Xbox Series X|S consoles that allows you to increase the frame rate (FPS) in the following video games.

The first 5 games to support FPS Boost are:

1. Far Cry 4

2. Sniper Elite 4

3. Watch Dogs 2

4. New Super Lucky’s Tale

5. UFC 4

Since backward compatibility with the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games coming to Xbox One, users have found that titles ran with better performance.

Backward compatibility was maintained at the launch of Xbox Series X | S and, for obvious reasons, added Xbox One. But this time, Microsoft worked on a new tool so that backward compatible titles receive even more improvements than normally expected.

New Super Lucky’s Tale, for example, reaches a rate of 30 frames per second (FPS) in its normal version, while activating FPS Boost would raise the value to 120 FPS. Another notable case is that of UFC 4, which can reach 60 FPS thanks to the new Xbox Series X|S tool.

How to Turn On FPS Boost on Xbox Series X|S

1. You can turn on FPS boost from the games and apps screen 

2. Press the Menu button on the controller, and then select Manage Games and Add-Ons

3. Scroll down and select Compatibility Options

4. Check the box to enable FPS Boost.

Other backward-compatibility boosts such as Auto-HDR will also be moved to this menu.

If you want to check if FPS Boost is ON, you need to press the Xbox button to open the overlay.
