Call of Duty was made exclusive to the Blizzard Battle.net client a few years back with the launch of Black Ops 4. Since then, no CoD game was released on Steam. The final game that can be purchased and played from the very popular desktop client is Call of Duty: World War II (2017). However, things are changing this year as CoD comes back to Steam.
Starting with Modern Warfare 2, CoD games will now be available both on Steam and the Blizzard Battle.net desktop client. The game will thus be available to a larger audience thanks to Steam’s global reach. Gamers can, thus, play the Modern Warfare 2 open beta via Steam.
Steps to access Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta via Steam
The Open Beta of Modern Warfare 2 will be available in the second week. Starting September 22, players who pre-ordered the game can play the Open Beta. Once the open beta is live, players can follow these steps:
- Open the Steam desktop client.
- Head over to Store.
- Now, navigate to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II store page.
- Scroll down to the Open Beta title.
- Select Install. This will start downloading the game.
Once the download is complete, players can start playing the game from their devices. It is worth noting that the Open Beta can be played for as long as possible. It does not have a time limit. However, the game cannot be played after the aforesaid dates.
